 social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/180/index/7590280 I Have encountered almost the same problem with my current installation of Baldur's Gate 2:SoA and ToB the problem goes like this... When i play SoA when resting all goes well but when i try to simply rest i freeze forcing me to use my task manager to shut bg2 down. The problem is that it seems Aerie is the culprit.Maybe it is because the mods i have installed contain some items that make her have a pas 12 slots memory per level. Regardless this doesnt happen in SoA so i cant really understand why it should happen in ToB and the problem is it just doesnt happen right away noooo it happens maybe after gromnir or gorion wrath i do NOT know i really dont. Removing Aerie and resting seems to do the trick but problem is shes my primary spellcaster AND romance(sigh). Cant i just REST without resting? Isnt there a spell like greater restoration to restore my memorized spells? Or the fact that in the Ascension mod the modders succeded to force the pools into making you rest without resting How can that feat be fuplicated??? I dont know guys i just want this to be over with unbugged and it just doesnt want to be so. I could just rush it and finish the god dammed thing but i believe that a solution must be found. Should you wish any information added say so although i have goodle the problem quite some times and i just havent found a solution.

If the problem is with Aerie's spellbook then the delay in it happening suggests that it only triggers once she's over a certain level, i.e. that's the point when she is getting too many spells for the game to handle. I suspect that one of your mods provides her with spells not linked to her spell slots - I've noticed in the past the game can crash when NPCs have more spells than the number of spell slots available.

To test this you could use Shadowkeeper to level her up and see when the problem first occurs. You could also test a potential work around of seeing what happens if you leave one of her spell slots blank when you rest.

the problem is that any editing with shadowkeeper that i have tried so far has resulted in an edited game crashing when the loading screen finishes loading. I will try to rest with a 12 spell max spellbook thought she's been max leveled since the start of the game( I am testing a modded class of Spellshafter bard archer protagonist  its quite fun). However Imoen and maybe Jaheira have in some ranks more than 12 spells and i fail to understand why this doesnt happen to them. Hmmm maybe its the dual spellbook priest/mage? I dont really know guess i will try a rest with just 12 spells per rank or attempt to remove the items that overextend her spellbook. Still this didnt happen in SoA and i cannot help but wonder why this happens at different points in the game(somewhat different). It must not really be and equipment issue though because up untill that point my equipment setting is final or almost...

You also mentioned mods that affect my spellbook. Do you mean mods like unnerfed cleric spellbook and druid and mage that kind of stuff? i could try deleting useless spells in my mage book to see if it also is a problem. Because believe me she has a LOT.

If you have a problem with shadowkeeper saves that's also an indication of an unstable setup. However, you can still easily level Aerie up to test where the problem occurs using Clua console.

I think you are missing my point here if you mean by using SetCurrentXP it is already set at 8 million which like i told you before is the maximum level. I dont know this did happen in old playthrough with less mods(like i remember i only had ascension) but fortunately i had the pools to restore my spells. Perhaps i shall have to obtain a new installation disc for that matter and see how it goes. Do you think it might have been the installation files that caused the problem? Well thats ugh sad... i dont know i dont want to bother you people much. Guess in the end i will just have to expect the enhanced edition to come out... Doesnt mean i wont keep trying. I love the Aerie romance and want to finally see this once more completed properly...

You could try adding this program option to your baldur.ini file and see if it helps. Might just be the rest clip that has an issue.

If you've installed to the program files folder under Winders 7 or Vista edit the compatability version of the game folder as well, otherwise just the one in the game folder.

Edit, have you tried removing all her items, might just be her cloak, helm, weapon, etc rather than her. Also I used to get strange results (class/kit would not be recognised) after casting shield of the archons with clerics but not a hang/crash.

Just to clarify I was referring to your earlier comment that you got problems later in the game.  

I am suggesting that you start a new game (or load an early save if you have one) when Aerie is at low levels.  Check that things are fine then and then level her up gradually testing as you go to see the point at which you start getting problems.

Saving a game in shadowkeeper makes you re-memorise all your spells, which on the face of it would allow you to bypass sleeping. I don't know if it will reset fatigue, if not perhaps Ctrl-R will?

However you say a shadowkept save is crashing, which indicates to me that memorising all your spells is crashing the game. Try unmemorising half the spells on every level, for cleric AND mage,
and also check if any memorised spells appear outside of the avaliable blocks. Now test if resting still crashes. If not increase the number of spells memorised and rest again.

Done it before doesnt help. Ctrl-R does NOT heal fatigue Ctrl-R does NOT heal curses(except jaheira's curse) Ctrl-R heals level drain but it doesnt heal ENERGY drain or thats what i think. Ctrl-R heals you and removes all buff all debuffs and can be used against your enemies. Indeed the problem seems to be near the latter levels of Aerie leveling up as a cleric/mage. Now that i have focused my memory more on my first cheatless(almost) playthrough i do remember that i couldnt max the level of all by the time i got to Throne of Bhall (dont look at me like that i had done every possible quest). Also i believe i did delete some spells to go under the 12 slot visible spellbook and that didnt work. Unfortunately i do not believe that further "unmemorization" could do anything for me. Regardless as i was trying to unistall a mod my pc crashed and restarted for unrelated reasons(fan speed not enough and yes it IS unrelated i am sure). Regardless i think i have found my solution here and i believe it is the level Aerie achieves. I believe i can handle for a while my cutie not being maxed out before we finish our adventures and have our happy ending once and for all UNFREAKIN BUGGED XD.
