good: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, especially the haunted hotel part.
bad: Mass Effect 3. Not bad per se, but very disappointing.

Bad: mass effect 3

Good: portal

Also one that falls into both groups for me: Fallout New Vegas, a good game that was released in a completely unacceptable state. I hated it but if I was to play it now with all the patches I would probably like it.

Do it. Especially if you're on the PC and can get mods to fix a lot of the bugs.

For a bad game, I'd really like to forget that I ever played Two Worlds.

Two Worlds 2 is better in like every way surprisingly.

Bad: Dragon Age 2, that way I won't feel the pain knowing it was a sequel to one of my favourite RPG's of all time.

Just about every good game I have played, I have started over again (and again) from fresh.

Bad game?, well...I erase those from my own memory as well as my console's. But if I had to choose, Blood Wake.

Good: Half-Life 2. If only so I could experience Ravenholm for the first time again.

Bad: Probably the hour I spent playing Black Ops.

Honestly, any game from Mega Drive/SNES/PS1 would be a good candidate, because those consoles contain the most frustrating games of my life. I don't even like to remember those unfair game mechanics.

Bomberman 64. Something about that game always made me want to play it. Yet I always sucked at playing it and never got far, this went on for awhile till I took and traded it in for another game lulz.

I can name several more that did this, or some that utterly failed me, like Homefront and Mass Effect 3.

But Bomberman was the first.

Bomberman 64 was a blast. (DOYHOYHOY)

Good one: Final Fantasy VII

Bad one: Can't think of any truly that bad.  However if I had to pick one, the one that immediately comes to mind that I own is Fuzion Frenzy II.  The mini-games suck, the colors are offensive and the commentator is probably the most annoying commentator in the history of video games.

Bad: Final Fantasy with Lightning in it. My very first Final Fantasy game and my very last, i am never going to touch a JRPG again. I seriously ****ing hate Hope and that too cheerful little girl, i felt physically sick seeing someone that happy and optimistic. I also hated Snow.

Good: DA:O or Morrowind

Bad: Dragon Age 2 or Oblivion
(and no, I was not disappointed in Oblivion because of a overly good memory of Morrowind as many seem to suggest, this is impossible, as I played Oblivion as my first Elder Scrolls game, and was still utterly unhappy and disappointed with it. yet then I played Morrowind...)

My condolences. You picked the wrong Final Fantasy to start on.

Dismissing the JRPG genre for that abomination would be like dismissing Western RPGs after playing Dragon Age 2.

Here's a list of some good JRPGs:

- Final Fantasy V (****ty story but great gameplay)
- Final Fantasy VI (aka Final Fantasy III) My favourite FF game.
- Chrono Trigger
- Secret of Mana
- Terranigma
- Earthbound (Deconstruction of the JRPG genre. Best saved for after you have played a few JRPGs so you can get all the jokes. Highly recommended)
- Suikoden II
- Xenogears (kind of a you really love it or you really hate it game)
- Secret of Mana
- Lost Odyssey
- Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario and Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door.

The fact that the overwhelming majority of these games are from the 90s is not a coincidence. Pretty much all modern JRPGs suck.

EDIT: To keep this post on topic, any one of the games I just mentioned.
