I haven't played it yet. I've played ME1 and ME2, and greatly enjoyed both.
I've heard so many bad things about ME3 though, so I'm hesitant to drop $60 on a game that might end up being a horrible disappointment.

Now that the story is slightly less daft I'll be getting it for completion's sake but I've played enough of a friend's copy to know I'll be putting it off until it's available for the ten bucks or so I paid for each of the first two games.... which I'd have happily paid $60 for. Or maybe I'll be over ME by the time the price has dropped that far, and I don't feel that leaving the ending at ME2 is necessarily a bad thing.

Definately do what you want to do, but PsiFive doesn't have a bad idea there. I have kicked myself plenty for having pre-ordered the CE (and funny enough, I never buy CE's, and only rarely pre-order). I wasn't even able to finish me3. So as PsiFive stated, nothing wrong with the series ending at ME2.....which is exactly how I see it. I will continue to play both ME and ME2, but leave it there....

I have to agree with the other two. I've only managed one playthrough of ME3. It's definitely not worth even half price. I would wait for the $10 special as well.

I haven't played it myself, but I'll have no problem buying it at full price.

As long as you don't buy the collectors edition like me you wont waste your money. You should be okay it's not worth $80 but just wait until the price drops by a little more.

Go play it and form your own opinion, I personally enjoyed it. Its not perhaps the greatest ending to a trilogy, but its an ending. Just make sure you get the EC(Extended Cut Dlc) with it.

Mass Effect 1-2 and 3 are excellent games , all 3 of them ,and i would recommend them to any scifi loving person and any friends of mine that haven't yet played them. By the looks of it , i see that you haven't registered your Mass Effect games be they 1 or 2 , i will assume you haven't bought those either and so I will give you the advice to go and buy them because they are all worth it. And If you're a fan of Stargate, Star Trek , Star Wars +++ then Mass Effect universe is for you.
Only by buying the games you get the full story / satisfaction , lots of free dlc and ingame items that come with them so why not give it a try.
I had a friend who was playing ME 2 pirated off some site , he was missing about 60% of the game's content, had a lot of bugs and other unpleasant surprises with it. So i invited him over to play the me games with me since i bought multiple copies on multiple platforms because i'm crazy for ME lol . Now the conclusion is , Only by buying the games and playing them in order with the save files you can really , truly , understand and enjoy the Mass Effect Experience.

Yes buy the game , it is totally worth it!

I have to say, ME3 is a very good game. You won't regret buying it if you liked MEs 1 & 2. Not sure I'd buy an expensive collector's edition, you don't get much for the large amount of extra money it costs. The NWN2 collector's editions were great, ME3 not so much.

Get the normal version and the single player DLC. You'll be glad you did, and the multi player is really fun too.

I love the game and more importantly the series. I am on my 3rd Playthrough of ME3 now that I can at least start a new character in ME2, mold that one in a new way and see how it plays out. Very fun and worth it. Not sure where you live but several stores in my area sell ME3 brand new for $30

The game's okay apart from the incredibly irritating (to me, anyway) inability to holster weapons when it's inappropriate to be running around with them out and the spacebar occasionally performing a different action than the one you wanted (also an occasional ME2 issue). The problem has always been with the story, and since the plot holes start before you get off Earth it's not even the end, DLC fixed or not. If you're good at suspension of disbelief then it's not a big deal. If you were always annoyed that only Imperial stormtroopers are this precise when it comes to shooting Jawas but when faced with a central character they can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo - a stupid, stupid plothole that could have been avoided with a bit more effort in the writing, and despite numerous revisions to the film has gone uncorrected for 30 bloody years - then it could be.

If you loved m2 cast, then dont because they get like 5 minutes of screen time each. But if you loved m1 cast then then by all means buy it because they all return as squadmates in 3 except wrex who at least has some relevance to the overall plot

This was sort of my plan as well.  Was just going to wait till it was dirt cheap to get it.  Then someone gave me ME3 as a gift.

However, I refuse to go past Horizon.  I just pretend the combined forces I gathered were capable of holding off the Reapers long enough to activate the crucible, which has only one function…to destroy the reapers.  Bad guys lose, good guys win, the galaxy is saved and there was much rejoicing.  The end.

OP: I was a big fan of Mass Effect 1 and 2. Probably liked Mass Effect 1 more, but maybe just in an old school RPG fan way.

In general, I am somewhat critical of games. I strongly dislike games like Borderlands, but really enjoyed Bioshock, the Dead Space series, ect.

Anyway, I like you, put off buying Mass Effect 3 because of the negative customer reaction. On Metacritic, the reviewer score was quite high, but the fan score was very low and some of the comments rabidly negative.

After the extended cut DLC came out, I gave it a shot.

The short story, it was truly great. I thought it did a great job with bringing people back for the finale without belaboring the whole thing. I liked the atmosphere and accumulate war assets aspect of it. I thought the Reaper invasion, from a practical gaming standpoint, was well done.

Also, although I only played on the second hardest setting (hardcore I think), I found the combat more challenging then most games, including Mass Effect 2. You have to learn to watch out for those grenades.

The multi-player aspect was a bit of turn-off for me, but I gave it a chance and grew to like it. Some of the classes, if you unlock them (N7 Slayer for instance) are great to play. When I finished the SP campaign, I was 100% war readiness. Don't spend money on it though. You earn plenty of credits for free just by playing.

The endings are interesting in a way.  I can see why, before the endings were expanded, it would have upset people.  Now they seem about right in length.  The aspect of them I appreciate is that the merits, as in which is the right choice, of all three good ending decisions are debatable (the refusual ending is a different story, but you have to be a tool to get that one).

The conclusion: Buy it, you more than likely will not be sorry. The Mass Effect trilogy will be one of my lifetime favorites, of that I am sure.

P.S.: It is a much better game if you can import a previous character.  If you no longer have one, download one that made the same decisions as you from the Mass Effect Downloads cite.

I felt very out of sync with ME2. Like I was forced into an absurd situation/nightmare due to a council I wish I'd have blown up. So after ME2 I needed to get three just to see what happened. In the end, while I think the quality of ME1 graphics and weapons, armor, no funding for it but the few bucks you earn was awful, the story was amazing and the characters and interaction was great. ME2 lost a lot of that since it was a group of strangers who all wanted something from you and became disloyal if the mission went sideways.

ME3 is down to minimal RPG. Mostly battles. Minimal conversations or communication with crew. I even reconnected with Kaidan after the horror of horizon and being paramour in ME1 and still, it was lame. If you like war battle games, go for it. If you are just plain curious, go for it, but don't expect anything of it to feel like ME1 or ME2. I played it on easy and narrative because I just wasn't really all that into it after how off point they got with two and totally screwed shep. At least RPG in ME2 was still there, but by three? I felt it was essentially absent. If you weren't into ME2 cast and want ME1 cast, it's good there. I got mine used and have played it several times, but it's not the same love I had for ME1 style. And ME2 I hate too much of to discuss. I just fly through it and totally mod it so it's as fast and easy for import as possible. The EC DLC of ME3 redeems it a bit. Enough that I don't stop at a certain point like I did after first two plays. Also, be prepared to HAVE to buy and play online multiplayer if you want to be certain you get the best ending due to the way they decided to screw the single player. I'm so floored about about I only see rage when I think of it. MP is okay but I'd rather not HAVE to do it and feel it should never tie into a single player game. If I am forced to do it, it should be free. I doubt I'll be doing the next DLC due out as I've lost a lot of love for the game like many others.

Thought this issue was fixed with the DLC so the 'breath' scene is now possible without multiplayer or apps.

ETA: just being fair. I still think the game overall sucks and isn't worth more than ten bucks of my hard earned, but credit where it's due if they did put this right.

I paid £60 for the CE and it not worth that. If you can get a copy for £15/20, then I would say go for it.
Not sure what the $ price would be sorry.
