In Mass Effect 1 when entering combat I quickly take cover and fire at one enemy. I use Lift on the next and then Throw on another before spinning around and using singularity. Between each use of power my weapon has cooled down for me to keep firing. Special ammo and upgrades were set before entering the fight.
In Mass Effect 2/3 when entering combat I quickly enter cover (providing I don't accidentally leap over it thanks to the Awesome button) and then apply an ammo power (providing I have taken one as my bonus). Now I shoot at an enemy and use Pull. Now I have to wait a second and then I can use Throw. Then I wait another second and use Singularity. Between each use of power I must reload my weapon (providing I have thermal clips available) in order to keep shooting.
Now call me silly but I'd say that the first example gives a quicker and smoother combat experience than the next.

How could they make you care less about the PC version if you aren't a PC gamer?
