Ok, so question for Bioware if possible: are we supposed to stick to pistols and shotguns? I've seen neither get touched and and there are plenty of viable ones. ARs, SRs, and SMGs are all in terrible need of buffs and you just keep nerfing. Nerfed the Typhoon, the Krysae. Are we getting the right message here, that you don't want us using those weapon classes? Waiting for the Harrier nerf that's inevitably coming, it's a viable weapon!
Go to the balance changes topic, read it with attention, see how wrong you are.

I have. They increase the damage of a couple ARs by about 10 points. Awesome. But where's the increases for the sniper rifles that were damaged during the TC nerf? Where's the buffs for the SMGs that are badly needed while we wait for the ULM fix that's been promised since the first patch? How about before you go calling somebody blind, you take your own advice and read with attention. There are so many things that need buffs right now, go read GodlessPaladin's balance thread. Yet what we're getting is weapon nerfs to the good weapons, buffs to the enemies, etc.
Same day as the tactical cloak nerf:
Javelin Sniper Rifle
- Encumbrance decreased from [3.0-2.4] to [2.7-2.4]
Black Widow Sniper Rifle
- Encumbrance decreased from [2.5-2.0] to [2.3-2.0]
Indra Sniper Rifle
- Encumbrance decreased from [1.25-0.7] to [1.0-0.7]
We probaly will see more buffs, just not now.
SMGs got a new powerful stability mod, try it. Locust deserve some love though, I will give you that..
The ULM fix will come, it's clear from bioware posts that we will see a patch soon
and it's almost 6 buffs for every nerf =)
Those are just the UR sniper rifles, and the Javelin was nerfed far more than it was buffed (fairly certain in one of the first balance changes they dropped its spare ammo capacity to 5.) Couple that with the fact that those buffs were only to help the people that don't have them at higher levels (overall the weight didn't change, just the starting weight) and you get a very small buff. They still need help.
With the SMGs, the stability mod is great and I didn't say it wasn't. But weapons like the Locust need help. Not all SMGs are in need of buffs, the Hurricane for example is perfect where it's at. But weapons like the Locust, the Tempest, etc. Could use a bump.
I wanna make this clear as reading through my previous post (which was made out of frustration, so my point got a bit muddled) I realized it may have given off the wrong vibe. I know they're not nerfing constantly. The problem I have is right now, at the moment, we need buffs. To classes and weapons. They should do the buffs first, then figure out what needs to be nerfed. That way the nerfs don't hit as hard.
I agree that sniper rifle could use a little buff, but I can't stand to the constant threads and posts full of hyperboles, trying to make it look like snipers are with 0 damage and completely useless because of constant nerfings, which is not truth. It's unbalanced, but not nerfed to "uselessland", like most people say.
About SMG:
- Hornet is awesome, give it a try. I'm using in my human engineer, Hornet + overload = death falling upon my enemies.
- I used a lot the tempest, but always with a pistol for armor, it could use a buff, but it isn't that needed.
- Hurricane I don't have =( but it's more than clear that she is good, by seeing other players using it.
- Geth SMG fall into the same situation as the tempest, could use a buff, but she is not that bad (actually I use it as secondary weapon in almost every build, because of the ULM working on her).
- The locust definitely need a buff, then another buff to be sure... then another one.
- Shuriken is common, so I think she s*ck on purpose.
