Could the reason why so many people get taken down by Phantoms so much is because they can't hear them due to the fact they're listening to music?
Trust me, I've spent a loooong time getting the balance right between the game sounds and music. I can still hear everything that's going on. It helps to have surround sound as well.
Also, another song that is on my playlist:
OCRemix-The Binding of Isaac 'The Clubbing of Isaac' [Sacrificial]
Also, I'd like to point out the guy who did this remix (and worked on a lot of the ones I posted before) was actually one of the composers who worked on ME2
Exactly. There are a few multiplayer games you can do without game sound, ME3 is not one of them. I have my ps3 running out stereo speakers while my music runs through my 5.1, loud enough to hear but quiet enough to be BGM for the game.
Also, if anything it's the Banshees you listen for, personally I don't recall phantoms ever making an auditory warning loud enough to be noticed, unless you count player characters yelling "phantom!" or what have you. I usually tac scan those sneaky pests anyway to counter the cloak factor:ph34r:

They make a chirping very similar to the nemesis, and it's usually far more mobile and closer to you, as well as being a different pitch

Just conquered another round of platinum while being graced with Conquer All by Behemoth and All Shall Fall by Immortal on the last 2 waves. And fall they did

I have my music set so that I can still hear everything in-game.

Those who come closer - Junya Nakano
It just resonates relentless dread. Perfect song for overwhelming odds.
