That's the point. Extraction for this weekend is made harder because the last operation was failed.

The countdown is new. It's to avoid all the past confusion of times. They made it so it counts to start time. Then after the event starts the timer will count down to the end time. I even found the message from Cris for you.

 I do not like this challenge, in almost every game I play with the players are new characters. (Gold and platinum level).
There are many players like me with complete and all characters at level 20.
I find no motivation to spend a few hours this weekend, the reward does not serve me anything.

I believe a better question would be what will the people with maxed out N7 character be getting? I'm still going to help on the challenge but all my N7s are maxed. Id still like to get a prize.

Wow, lots of snarkiness.  Lots of "it's clear" when it wasn't (given all the Q's and contradictory replies). 

After reading the posts from Bioware (Chris and Derek) umpteen times, here's what I think is known and assumed:

Squad Goal:
Team makeup: At least one Earth DLC character
Extraction: partial okay.  Earth DLC character extraction not required.
Map: any
Enemy: not explicitly stated (most, including myself, are assuming "any")

Allied Goal:
Team makeup: At least one Earth DLC member (according to Priestly, contradicted by Hollan)
Extraction: partial okay.  Not explicitly stated, but given similar squad goal, and wording, probably safe to assume that Earth DLC character extraction is again not required.
Map: any
Enemy: not explicitly stated (most, including myself, are assuming "any")

Has the "Enemy" question been explicitly clarified  and I just missed it?  I've assumed "any" since it wasn't explicitly stated otherwise.  But there is the first sentence:
"Operation OVERWATCH drops troops on Earth to tackle the most secure Reaper strongholds"
But I think we are all assuming that was just for narrative's sake, just like the Earth part.

Not really. YOU don't have to play an Earth character; just have someone in your squad needs to. If none of your friends have one or you can't find a random lobby with one, contact one of these helpful folks: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/343/index/13326854/1

Countdown Timer = good idea! Several StarCraft tournaments used this mechanism to coordinate check-in's across several timezones. Love seeing it in M.E. now!

Guys, The timer at the top of the website is counting down to when Overwatch starts, for all of the people asking about times.

Not playing through the extraction is like playing battlefield or COD just for credits/exp to level up and not caring about whether you lose or the other team whipes the floor with you... 

Remember when games used to be about completing the game and the objectives?  Did you stop playing the single player once you reached the highest level?

That's a good plan.  It seems like that's they what they were trying to say, but didn't actually clarify... so just to be safe, just play reapers...

Sorry but I'm pretty sure in this case YOU are the vocal minority... You really think that the MAJORITY of people playing this game already have all the N7 characters unlocked and don't usually play through the extraction wave (or at least try)?  Have you even read this forum?  Sounds like a lot of people in this thread alone don't agree with you, and are would be happy to receive one of the new characters...
