Are there any GOOD choices? Ones that won't be tricked into betraying you? Is it a matter of how far you move the freind/rival scale towards freind prior to entering or is it just character flaws that certain characters have that the demons find easy to exploit?

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

I knew Merrill had turned once before on me so I took her out and took Aveline, Fenris and Varrick and both Aveline and Fenris turned. My Hawke DW asassin/shadow had to drop back to casual to take out Fenris and the last demon with Varrick getting one shotted immediately (I had Fenris to help against Aveline in the first fight).

So are there others that you can count on to stay with you anytime or is it indeed related to the freind/rival bar?

IIRC The only companion that doesn't turn on you is Anders because he becomes Justice once he ends the fade. Sebastian won't enter the Fade but the others will all betray you. But, again IIRC (and you can check the wiki to be sure) there are two demons and certain companions only fall victim to one kind. So, say, if Isabela and Varric are the ones that both fall victim to the Desire demon, if you take them both, one will fall victim to the Desire demon and the other will be impervious to the other demon.

I haven't explained that well hahaha. But you can double check the wiki. :)

Some companions are more easily tempted than others. With the desire demon Isabela will be tempted if she is in your party. Then Aveline.
With the pride demon Merrill will be tempted if she´s in your party. Then Fenris, then Varric, I think (I believe I've read that Varric is tempted by pride, not desire, but I've never had him betray me, so I'm not sure).

Anders will not be tempted by the demons, but will turn on you if you accept Torpor´s offer.

None of the companions´ betrayal is influenced by the relationship status. Neutral, friend, rival, romanced, doesn´t matter one bit.

I think its better to have companions turn on you because you get an extra conversation with them after. Some of the companions can be a pretty tough fight though, especially if you lose Anders at the start by dealing with the demon because Hawke has to fight the last companion by herself. Isabela pwned me the last time I did this quest.

And if you put Self:Any->Wait as their first tactic, they won't even attack you.

Anders won't betray you unless you make a deal with demons yourself

You can make your life a whole lot easier if you just take Anders into the fade ;)

Alternatively, unequip weapons from all your companions and make them laughably easier to defeat LOL

Yeah - last time I took Fenris (as always because I want the points from the conversation afterwards) but had given him so many damn points in strength he was just oneshotting me. Bleurgh.

And do you know I never thought about changing their tactics to stop them attacking? **Major face palm...**

Lol, Fenris kicked my mage´s ass in the Fade.:pinched: His first tactic was enemy -> any -> mighty blow, so as soon as the fight started I got his hammer on my head. Eventually I disabled his tactics and removed his hammer. :P

She will, if you don't have Isabela.

Aveline will attack you, only if Isabela isn't there to be tempted by Desire.

Varric will only attack you if Fenris/Merrill aren't there for Pride, and Fenris will only attack you if Merrill isn't there to be tempted by Pride.

Anders will only attack you if you attempt to make a deal with the first Demon, Sloth.

It's quite simple really for Desire it's Isabela -> Aveline. For Pride it's Merrill -> Fenris -> Varric.

Well for my own "pride" issues I feel better scaling back the difficulty and still actually defeating the traitors rather than tinkering with their tactics to make them useless...Posted Image

Then again I rarely tinker with the tactics anyway - I see that as a way to let the characters sort of make their own decisions how to act and react in battle - or at least the way the devs apparently thought they might. I do occasionally add something to allow them to take potions before dying but rarely fool with the rest other than perhaps to choose between aggressive and defensive or scrapper or whatever.
