An MQI with a Valiant will kill more Pyros with a much lesser risk than the GI with the SI with the Wraith. Shotguns tend to have slow firing rates, and need to be at close range to be effective. A semi-sniper rifle can pull off outrageously quick headshots, with little to no injury. The Raptor and Indra arent great agains bosses, but they make up for it by slaughtering infantry. Valiant and Black Widow are excelent bosskillers, as well as mookmowers. Krysae is good against everything.

Not sure how you mixed this up, but last time I checked, the oneshot sniper-rifles have LEGENDARY armor piercing. Most shotguns need an AP mod to match them. Shotguns are more effictive against infantry with shieldgate, but again, long range, less risk.

Overall the snipers are crap. Sure you can use them and beat gold with them, even platinum if you are somewhat decent. But you are gimping yourself and slowing down your clear times by a lot. Claymore, piranha, GPS, reegar, hell even the wraith, talon and harrier on infiltrators all make the snipers look like joke weapons in comparison.

Saying that shotguns make sniper rifles obsolete is like saying the new N7 characters make the other operatives obsolete. The Infiltrator with a Widow is going to kill the Centurion and move on to the Nemesis before the Infiltrator with Reegar even gets to the battlefield.

I have so many sniper rifle rail amps (and I can actually snipe quite well)... tells you something about the quality of sniper rifles in the game, why would you use these things ?? It just takes way too long kill bosses with sniper rifles...

No. shadow is not viable in Gold/ Platinum, IF there are Hunters or Primes around

There is a high likelihood of being detected by turrets, who proceed to murder you after you strike something

Shadow Strike is perfectly viable on Gold, when you spec for melee damage, duration on cloak, and bonus power.Cloak + SS alone with KO and low level mooks, including cents and hunters, if specced right. Cloaked 2x SS or SS + heavy melee will off phantoms, turrets, pyros, etc in one shot. It has a weakness to boss type enemies, and is therefore not nearly as effective on Platinum, but still useable. Throw on a piranha with blade and choke, and use that to kill bosses instead of your sword. Very viable class on all difficulties, no short of spectucular on Bronze, Silver and Gold.

If you actually think that snipers are better at killing armor or even come close to shotguns in that aspect and that you need to get dangerously close with shotguns to be effective you are clearly completetly clueless and most likely a bad player, sorry.

When the TC was nerfed-at first I lamented a lot. I didn't go whining throughout BSN but I did input a status message to reflect my grief about the blow to one of my favorite classes (my SI). I learned to deal with the shortened TC just fine- I am not nearly as bullet proof as I used to be and that's something I can deal with on Gold. But on Platinum? You're right, I just cannot see how a SR is even viable for that level of difficulty given the aggressiveness of the enemies. I have broken out with my SI/SR a few times for Platinum and I did "ok" but it seems lacking in real oomph for Plat. Everyone says to go to a shottie infiltrator but I just fail at shotguns for some reason. I love to snipe so this means I might just have to relegate sniping and infiltrator classes for my Gold games.

I ditched every sniper rifle a long time ago except the Indra who couldn't care less about the shield gate.
Tactical scan + tactical cloak + saber or indra : dead prime.

Yeah, Sniper Rifles are my go-to weapon for gold and platinum.

Really guys? Which ones are you using? I can roll with my Widow X with comfort on Gold but I find it to be underperforming (at least to my expectations) on Platinum. Sure, I'm still killing and cancel reloading like a mad fool.but..it seems to have lackluster hit.

On topic: Snipers are far from worthless. Geth Inf with a sniper with piercing can wreck enemies before they even enter the room. Kishock can trash all non boss mobs. Kyrasae has longrange stagger. BW and Valient are two of the best guns in the game. Mantis is good vs trash and is light weight.
