Currently I have DA:O through Steam, but all my Steam games go to my 'slow' 7200RPM drives, and I have an available DA:O license independent of Steam that I want to put on my SSD (yes, I'm impatient, now hush).  Has anyone tried this before?  I figure it's just a matter of registering the new keys here on BSN/EA, and re-installing the software to the new location, backup/restore the Character profiles and mods, &c, but just curious if anyone else had tried this and run into... trouble...

Are you trying to run two copies of the game off the same machine at the same time? Or are you trying to put a new copy of the game on but removing the older Steam version?

I want to remove my Steam version and run my other, retail version.  I want to keep my characters/mods and stuff, but I can back those up to another place while I do the transition.  I don't want to have both on the computer at once.

Ahhh... Easy,

1. Backup your "\\[user's documents]\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override" folder so you have a copy of your installed mods.

2.  Un-install current game choosing the "Keep Saves and Characters" option.

3.  Re-Install the version you want.

4.  Patch to v1.05

5.  Copy your mods back to "\\[user's documents]\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override" folder.

And the Characters folder. Now for the BSN/EA - do I have to use the key provided with the second version to re-register it after de-registering, or can i use the same key that I had with Steam for main game/DLC &c? I guess that's what I'm more concerned with than the other stuff... if they track the product keys by source the way, say, Microsoft does.
