NOTE: First allow me to say that I apologize to my fellow forumites and to the Moderators if this is posted in the wrong section, though I couldn't find anywhere more specific.
Officially at 12:42 am Eastern Standard time I just completed my first 'real' playthrough of Dragon Age 2,
since having given up on it last year when I got stuck towards the
end....and YES there were times that i wanted
to yell and scream and throw a temper tantrum....I even had fleeting
imaginings of smashing my computer and selling the game on ebay. And I
was playing on Casual! (I don't know how you all play on Hard and
Insanity mode! That would blow my mind.).
And through it all I have
to say "what an amazing gaming experience! I loved
the characters, the writing, the story, the gameplay.....There was
nothing that I didn't like/love about this game!" For me, personally
(and this is just my personal opinion so please don't spam this thread
with trash-talk), I felt it was much better than DAO...mainly for two
reasons. While I love a great, deep RPG as much as the next Gamer....I
don't particularly care for a 'silent' playable protagonist....Nor was I
thrilled with the combat in DAO. I felt it was, as Mike Laidlaw once
said "silently rolling a pair of dice in the background." I much prefer
fast, action-oriented, responsive combat. And those are the two main
reasons why for me Dragon Age 2 is better than Origins. Now, please, do
not misunderstand me and think that I'm saying Origins was bad at
all......On the contrary, Origins is a very good game. A brilliant game
in many respects. I just prefer DA 2, though even DA 2 has it's
faults (read "overly re-used environments"), it's by no means perfect.
Though even that did not deter too much from my scale of enjoyment.
Looking past the very few, very minor faults of Dragon Age 2...The strengths far out number and out weigh the weaknesses. For me an enjoyable game is about interesting characters, a good story, and 'friendly' gameplay mechanics (by friendly I mean, user-friendly...ie control schemes that are not clunky and the transitions between button pressing and the character moving on the screen is smooth and responsive. Not like you have to completely stop moving in one direction BEFORE you can turn, and then you have to wait BEFORE you can start moving again....I'm sure we've all played games like that). I like controller mechanics that make sense and are easy to use.
But more than gameplay mechanics, if the faults in that area are minor, yet the game has a good story and interesting characters, I can over look those flaws. For me, I'm all about a good, story-driven, character-driven game. If the story is well-written and the characters are interesting...then I am a happy gamer!
That is the biggest reason why I quite thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age 2 sooo much. The story was unique, it was well-written, the framed-narrative was an interesting choice for a game I thought...I thought the script was amazing; the party banter was some of the funniest stuff I've ever heard! And the characters were all quite complex in their own ways, and they all had interesting stories to tell. There was not one character in that game that I didn't enjoy, though my favourites are Isabella and Merrill.
To the Dragon Age production team, and Bioware as a whole......Once again you have largely exceeded my expectations. Yet another amazing title from Bioware (my favourite Gaming company on the planet!) From Knights of the Old Republic 1 &2, Buldar's Gate 1 &2, Dragon Age: Origins, the entire Mass Effect trilogy and now (speaking of my personal game collection over the years) Dragon Age 2.....Bioware, you have never ceased to impress me.
Dragon Age 2 was another awesome title! I'm totally gonna start a new play-through using a different class, as earily as tomorrow afternoon.
Can't wait for Dragon Age 3!

I too enjoyed DA2 despite it's flaws But it still doesn't change that fact that I think it's worse than Origins and is in no way a sequel to that game. It feels like a spin off.
I also enjoyed Origins A LOT more.

Pretty much how I feel. Though with a better act 3 and no reused environments I may have liked it as much as Origins.

No re-used environments and companion gear and I would be reasonably happy to give DA2 a 9.5/10

I love having dice thrown in the back ground in DAO. It's so old school. ha ha. I'm glad someone likes DA2. It is user friendly.
