 Hi guys!

Mantis, Widow and Javelin (UR).
Maybe Kishock too (more usable, do not suffer shield gate problem).

Cleary we need some kind of buffs on these snipers to make it usable on gold/platinum.

classic snipers rifles, bolt action. Need very good aim and precision.

So... what do you think guys? What is the better way to balance these weapons now?

*Please, this topic is only to this discussion.

July 31th update
Shield gate bypass is 10% on gold/platinum.

Few possible tweaks:

- Shield gate bypass at least 25% on gold/platinum.
- Fast reload times and more damage (Mantis, Widow and Javelin)
- More effective against armor
- bosses headshot bonus (only to one shot snipers)
- no hipfire penalty (it is a canon! no logic about it)
- on platinum stopping bosses to regenerate shields and barriers for few more seconds after take a shot from these snipers.
- Javelin, ultra rare, need to have better magazine and less weight too(UR).

Try your Javelin on a GI specced for max damage everywhere, put AP rounds on it.. and shoot armored targets. I LITERALLY just got done doing this... one shot Ravagers, one shot Brutes, 2 shot Banshee/Atlas Armor. You need your other team members to be the mook killers... but that guy is the designated boss killer. I was amazed at the damage to the Banshee armor... it's more than half.

But yeah other than that... they need love... especially the Kishock.

That is my whole point Kev...
I want my beloved snipers balanced to the show. I refuse to use shotguns all the time on my Infiltrators.

We'll probably see more useless buffs that still do nothing to guns that couldn't kill a husk with no legs and one hands.

People need to stop calling the single shot rifles "bolt action".

Anyway, what makes single shot snipers not great on Platinum isn't the damage they do, its the pure volume of enemies that are pretty much always in your face. Brutes, Banshees, Hunters, and Phantoms all at once means that you don't need precision so much as you need weight of fire. To make a clumsy analogy, the enemies on Platinum are like enemy soldiers charging at a trench in WW1. You want machine guns and artillery on your side, accuracy be damned, not some dude hanging back shooting one person at a time. If there were fewer, tougher enemies (that weren't always up in your face) then snipers would be more viable.

Edit: Basically its the structure of Platinum that makes the SRs feel lackluster, not the SRs themselves. Buffing SRs so that they can compete on Plat with the Shotguns/Harrier/Typhoon would mean that they could easily be over the top on lower, less hectic difficulties.

I use my Javelin on my GI with Amp III, rail amp III, piercing mod, incendiary ammo IV. And' I've never killed Brutes or ravagers with one shot.

On gold avagers and brutes needs 2 shots. With one cloacked shot I can take like 1/3 of a banshee barrier.

And, what are your source, bronze or silver?

I used to carry only a black widow, sometimes with a carniflex backup. I hardly used the carniflex though, it didn't have enough kill power (it's extremely light, which made me think of using it). I used to use my talon exclusively, and really loved it with ammo and scope...I could bring down anything with that. Then after the talon was lightened a bit, I tried it out...it slows down things a bit, but it was tolerable. Since I wasn't using it for all purpose anymore, I changed it to ammo plus armor piercing buffs, and began switching to that at close range...it does a REALLY good job at that. I'm going to suggest trying out that talon+ammo+AP along with your javelin...you might not need anyone else to be "mook killers" again. Not sure, but I think the talon still has some partial shield gate advantage.

Discussion isn't about pistols, Talon or 3 bullets sniper rifles like Valiant/BW.

I was actually in a same game with Mega and suggested him to try out the Javelin with GI.
I tried it out myself before that game and it actually one shots ravagers, brutes and a lot of else armored targets.

Offcourse there is that little fact that mine and Megas Javelin is a X version.
It might not be that effective on lower levels. :alien:

And for one shotting you need to proxy mine the enemy first. Figures.

So many variables...
On this case, he was debuffing with a skill before one shot kill a Ravager.
It is another case.

Same Salarian Infiltrator case to deal shield gate problem.

I too would like to see Bioware increase the overall effectiveness of Sniper Rifles. As time has gone by the Sniper Rifles have become less competitive. Most Infiltrators seem to choose Shotguns over Sniper Rifles now, I myself no longer snipe with them. Even the newest member of the Infiltrator roster has no use for them. Which is a shame considering in all three games it is mentioned that they receive specialized training with Sniper Rifles. One of the primary reasons I chose to play the Infiltrator class both in Singleplayer, and Multiplayer is because they were a stealth class that sniped.

I suppose with the fast pace Gameplay of Mass Effect 3's Multiplayer coupled with map design, and Shield Gate being a contributing factor as well I should not be surprised. While Shield Gate is the only element that effects the weapons themselves, the pace of the game and map design play into it as well. There are good spots in a few of the maps for someone to snipe from, however they can easily be overrun due to the speed of the game and the damage that one can do with Sniper Rifles.

I hope Bioware does something to put a Sniper Rifle back in my hands. While I have adapted and love the new N7 Shadow, my new favorite class. I miss sniping greatly.

Single shots need to ignore shield gate to be viable. Otherwise the weapons only see action on bronze or silver.

Before the TC nerf the GI could one shot a brute but those days are long gone. I do think all snipers need a bit of a buff not just the single shot snipers.

Thank you kind sir. I'm amazed at how many times I get called a liar on here... but yes I should've noted that I hit them with proxy mine first... that's a fair point. But... if your a GI or an SI... don't you always fire proxy mine/energy drain before you snipe? I thought that was a given... it's a waste of damage potential not to.

Woo! I managed to actually land a shot on a Nemesis with my Javelin!

Oh what's that? She has one bar of shield left? Dammit. Even if I land a second shot, I'm still gonna have to shoot a third time. This is gonna take forever, with how fast they move. Well, here we go, I'm almost done reloading...

...oh, nevermind, somebody just got her with a fast firing weapon. Well, that was a complete waste of time.

PS: I don't know how to solve this problem. Shield gate is definitely annoying, but I don't know if getting rid of it would be the solution. Perhaps letting some damage in, but not all?
