Hey guys. It's been forever since I played ME1 and had a couple questions. I'm looking at mkaing a Vanguard to play through the entire series with. I'll probably play on Hardcore, as insanity can be a bit more stress then I'm looking for, especially on ME1 where I havn't played in quite some time.
First off What is a reasonable level for charm? I don't care if there are a few charm options I don't unlock BUT i would like to be able to do most of them and probably keep Wrex alive. Also in regards to the 4 bonus points in charm. Do you get them even if you have already invested points into charm?
Also wondering about Lift vs. Singularity. Which is better. I'll probably max one and leave the other at advanced level.
What do people tend to think of shotguns in ME1. I know pistols were insane but I do wanna consider using shotguns a fair amount in keeping with the vanguard play style. Is it really worth it or are they just troublesome.
How many points are neccesary in Barrier? Will armor outweigh it at higher levels or does it really need to be maxed out.
Thanks for the advice all.

I am short on time, so I will try my best:
1) You need all 12 points in Charm to pass all conversation checks (I think 12 is needed to get Jeong to stand down on Feros). You get free points in charm, regardless of how many points you have already spent in Charm. I know you get 1 free Charm and Intimidate upon becoming a Spectre. I think the other three are unlocked as your paragon meter goes up (possibly for reaching 25%, 50%, and 75% of maximum charm but I do not know for sure)
So the maximum number of points you would need to invest into Charm would be 8 (+4 free for 12 total). You could probably drop it down to 6 for a total of 10 which I think is the next-highest Charm you need.
2) I prefer lift since it affects more enemies. For example, Singularity does not affect Hopper Saren at the end.
3) I like shotguns. They have a high chance of knocking enemies down, especially with the Hammerhead rounds later. But the Vanguard is so point-starved it is probably not worth it to invest the extra points. It depends what you think of Carnage (I hate it). As long as you have Shotgun tree unlocked, you can aim with it, so that may be all you need.
4) As long as you have Medium armor unlocked (7 or 8 points needed) and Advanced Barrier, that should be all you need from what I have seen people talk about. I like maxing both out for maximum survivability but that is just me.
