Moonstruckred, in every post I've made in this thread I've specifically mentioned I don't give a hoot if you do it, therefor, I'm not having a hard time understanding anything. All I did was jump into a thread where someone was making a list of mostly bug fixing or utility mods so I could check out which ones would work out well for me. I did that and posted as much in the 1st reply, at the same time though I'm not the kind of person where I'm going to see something posted as fact, when it's not, and not comment on it. That's all I've been doing, commenting on "this isn't a cheat" posts, by saying just cause you say it doesn't make it so.

Whatever though, I'll just stop replying since the thread is getting derailed and I may miss out on a mod that I can use.

why is it so hard to believe that not everyone enjoys rerolling and releveling due to mistakes?

I must have missed the part where someone found that hard to believe. I was pointing out that some of us do enjoy rerolling and releveling and would therefore be disappointed if BioWare and others went even further towards TwitchPG systems.

If you wanna mod/cheat your game then go right ahead and more power to you, but when you start telling BioWare to wake up and smell the ADD I think it's only reasonable for the rest of us to speak up in response.

Especially as this is a single player game? It is up to the individual to define what is "cheating";  And, so I completely disagree with sinosleep. I say that the respec mod is something other than cheating and therefore to 'me' it IS so.

Coming to a mod commentary thread and labelling all mods as cheating is unhelpful at least or trolling at worst.

Might we possibly get back to talking about our favourite mods now ?

oh very nice, thanks for these tips, will try some of em out for sure.

Turned out into a fun read aswell with multiple people deciding their own definitions of a word overrode the common perception. let's finish this post in their spirit.

I'm glad you bothered to read my first post, you know, the one where I specifically posted about a mod from this thread that I was probably going to go ahead and use and another one that I was considering once I did some more research into it. I'm also glad you bothered to read the op where the poster specifically themed the thread with mods that were more akin to BUG FIXES AND NOT GODMODE mods, but hey, whatever.

This is just flat out ridiculous, being a single player game has absolutely NOTHING to do with what is and isn't cheating. Guess what section of gamepro the cheats for Castlevania were located it in? Wait for it, wait for it, the cheats section. The only thing that multiplayer or lack there of has to do with cheating is from a competative standpoint.

The mods I cannot play without are:

* No Follower Autolevel

Stops party members from auto-leveling and auto-chosen skills & spells and allows player to place all stat, skill, and spell points where desired. After installing this mod, I no longer needed the Respec mod. Morrigan still keeps Shapeshifting and Wynne still keeps Spirit Healer so the lore of the game remains intact.

http://social.bioware.com/project/683/

* Less Barking Dog

Makes the dog bark less while at Camp. The barking didn't bother me at first, but on my second playthrough, I decided I wanted to hear all of the dialogue from Leliana's stories, and realized she couldn't say more than three words before the dog barked (again). A sanity saver!

http://social.bioware.com/project/959/

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't realise how annoying that barking dog was until I saw this !

NFA made it possible for me to "respec" without modifying companions default specialisations - I like it !

Wow you guys are way too defensive. I was seriously joking. How did you miss that? Wikipedia says you're cheating? Some of you need to chill because I wasn't attacking anyone. I was just stating that if someone says you're cheating you should just ignore it because it's a pointless argument BOTH ways. Anyways. I'm liking http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=301 because I'm a big fan of smashing things open and there's a chance you'll break whatever is inside so it's not super OP.

Sinos I'm not sure why you're so pissed at everyone. You're mad the thread is derailing but you pipe in every other post to say "you're cheating because I said so" and then "and I'm leaving" yet you're back about 3 posts later? If you can resist replying to this I'll believe that it honestly bothers you that the cheat talk distracts you from mods you could be downloading.

Project Beauty is a great mod. If you're unsatisfied with they way your companions look, this is for you. It also makes many non companion characters look better as well.

The only non-DLC addon I use is re-spec and I try to avoid using it on anyone other than my main character.

While not mods per-se I've made my own face morphs and item model swaps which I can't imagine playing without anymore.

I know, I know. Another "favorite mods" thread. Well, this is about mods that are really more like bug fixes: the mods that aren't cheating or god mode or noodie pron, but that simply fix some of the annoying things about the game that make it tedious or buggy or less fun.

Why start this thread? To encourage others who experience similar frustrations to try out some of the excellent mods out there.  IMO with the release of DAModder, there is no reason to shy away from mods. It's one of the cleanest, most reliable mod managers I've seen made for any game.  It's dirt simple to use and reliable, and it makes removing or disabling a mod that might be causing problems (or that you end up not liking) very easy and painless.

I'll list my current favorites that fit this category:

(Note, all of the following mods can be found at Dragon Age Nexus)

  • DAModder - makes installing/testing/disabling/removing/managing mods totally easy
  • Advanced Tactics - makes the AI tactics actually work well, and adds a ton of new conditions to check for and actions to take. Been wishing you could actually have Wynne auto-resurrect a dead character in battle?  Want the character you're controlling to actually run its own tactics if you're not actively moving it or selecting actions for it? Seriously, this mod alone fixes 80% of what's buggy and weak about the game IMO.
  • Auto Highlight - effectively holds your Tab key down for you all the time, ensuring that you don't miss any item. Funny how many items don't have glowy sparkles and you'll waltz right past them. (Circle Tower--I'm looking at you!)
  • Detailed Tooltips - saves a ton of time alt-tabbing out to look up stats and formulas on the wikis and forums.  All the nitty gritty info you need right there when you hover over an item/talent/attribute, etc.
  • Steal Cooldown Reduced - the 10-second default cooldown on Steal is just stupid, considering you can only steal successfully from a character one time anyway. This reduces it to a more reasonable 2 seconds. There are some other cooldown mods for things like making the Sustained talent cooldowns much faster, but I don't trust them yet and am waiting for the bug reports to slow down.  Keep your eye on them, though.  It's silly how many sustained abilities are turned off in various unwanted ways and then you have to wait a long time to reactivate them.
  • DLC Merchandise - the lovely creator of this mod duplicated the properties of all DLC special items and stuck them on Bodhrain in your Camp. The items have different names (such as "Clayton's Dirk" for what was released as "The Edge") so you don't have to muck around with manually finding and installing DLC content that you might not have a license for anyway. And his code won't spawn one of his copycat items if you already have the DLC original, so you can't intentionally or accidentally dupe these unique items. With his mod anyway...  Nice solution for those of us who, for example, purchased the game before Nov 30 but forgot to register it before the deadline, so we never received The Edge...
  • Character Respec Addon - yes, some folks and some Bioware developers might consider character respecs mid-game as cheating, but jeez, it's the 21st century already.  Believe it or not, very few people find it "fun" or "immersive" to be forced to reroll from scratch because your labyrinthine character development mechanics are poorly explained and hard to grasp at first, so it's all too easy to paint your character development into a corner that you're unhappy with.  C'mon Bioware, stop this crap--it's nearly 2010 already!  Meanwhile, this mod lets you fix the mistakes you made with your own character development and lets you fix the stupid starting builds on most of Bioware's companions.
That's my shortlist for making the game more playable without cheating outright (granted, some of you will consider the Respec mod as cheating and we'll just have to agree to disagree on that point).  What are your recommendations in this vein?

Lookin at all these mods, 100% of it should've been included in the game at launch. God bless modders for doin Bioware's job for them. Even if you think respeccing is cheating, you should at least have the option to respec your companions, otherwise it's like being stuck playing on a wow server with only 9 people who are all morons and don't know how to talent themselves.

Currently using :

Respec mod - Really only use it to test spells and talents. Though something similar should have been in the game. Like Titan Quest had an NPC you could pay some silver/gold to unlearn talents, each one costing a bit more. To me that was a great balanced addition, and would improve most games.

Detailed Tooltips - Simple mod which should have been in the game from the start.

Xbow bugfix - Fixes Xbows so they gain dmg from Dex as they should.

Leliana and Sten Head morphs from the trailer addition mod, and only the head morphs.

Thinking of using Advanced Tactics as it fixes many tactic bugs and adds many great new options.

Also thinking of using the autohighlight mod as its annoying to run around with tab held down :)

I honestly thought I had gotten rid of the "i'll stop replying part" (I knew I thought it but didin't think I typed it) because I'm notoriously bad about getting in the last word and as such typing something like that is just stupid for me to do. And again, I'm not getting mad at any one. I'm replying to people who don't know the defenition of a word and other people who have a serious lack of reading comprehension. I'm 25, I don't get "mad" at the internet.

Lol, you do.

BtW, CHEATING is nice in singleplayer games. While its something only assclowns do in multiplayer games, it can sometimes really add to the fun in a SP game. I remember running around in Oblivion with my "kill everything on the map with a few hits" spell, and it was so much fun. Whenever a fight bored me I just used either this or my Instakill-on-touch spell so I could proceed and enjoy the good parts of the game. AAAA, good times.
If I ever get the toolset to work, I´ll definitely make a Level 1 spell for all classes that killes the target instantly.

Considering that there is only a very small description of every single skill and talent in the game, I don't see how realizing you made a mistake later on and wishing to fix it counts as 'ADD' or 'TwitchPG' or even cheating.  –verb (used without object) 4. to practice fraud or deceit: She cheats without regrets. 5. to violate rules or regulations: He cheats at cards. 6. to take an examination or test in a dishonest way, as by improper access to answers. 7. Informal. to be sexually unfaithful (often fol. by on): Her husband knew she had been cheating all along. He cheated on his wife.   #5 possibly applies here, but since Bioware specifically allows for mods and changing the regulations straight out of the box, it seems to me it's six one way half a dozen the other if this is cheating.

Now, if you used a respec to, say, bring Zevran along instead of Leliana for his bigger damage output, but popped him a respec potion when you come across a trap or locked object and give him points in those skills, that would be cheating.  Discovering that the Shapeshifter class actually stinks bigtime and you've plowed four points into it, buying into a promising description?  That's a bit different.

I ended up deleting this one. It highlights things you can't use and in a way labels things twice. I tried messing with the config but it shows 'invisible objects', unselectable books, and things you just don't care about, like 'the part of the table people cut meat at' (or something like that) wtf?

Sinos age doesn't have anything to do with handling anger, even on forums. I'm older than you and I'm generally angry and pissy all the time. It may calm down once I'm in my 60's but I highly doubt it :P

The Winter Forge mod lets you change the base materials of your equipment - so I got the armour then Silver Laminated it.

Speaking of mods that make the game more fun. Is there a mod out there that lets you skip the Fade in the mage tower? I love playing the game, but getting through the fade after your first playthrough is such a chore!

I'd be in heaven if there was a mod that let you skip it but still get the +21 stat points. Maybe even bump your characters up a level to reflect the experience you would have gotten as well.
