With the buff to damage on July 18:

Piranha Shotgun
-Damage increased from [63.6-79.6] to [70.9-88.7]

The damage per pellet is now 221.75 (RoF 150 * Damage 88.7(X) / 60). You can then multiply this by the number of Pellets to get your DPS.

8 * 221.75 = 1774 DPS

Now the current DPS of the Claymore is 1648 at Level X. Yes, the Claymore has a tighter spread, but with Smart Choke, cover accuracy, and/or class Accuracy bonuses, you are looking at a weapon that is beyond Devastating on Gold and still very overpowered on Platinum.

~Edit~

It was pointed out to me that sustained DPS (DPS factoring in reload time) only increases the disparity between the two weapons.

Gamako said....

The sustained DPS for uncanceled/canceled Claymore fire is 470 / 833 DPS. The sustained DPS for the uncanceled/canceled Piranha is 984 / 1338.6. Seriously, these aren't even close. The Piranha is damage king,
and it's pretty lightweight to boot. That is a serious problem.

\\Thanks Gamemako\\

When you add in RoF boosts and/or damage boosts from abilities, you can melt bosses with this weapon faster than any other currently available. This is also a relatively light weapon for this amount of DPS, ranging from 1.5 - .9. It is perfectly capable of being carried by caster classes with minimal CD reduction.

I propose returning it to it's original damage [63.6-79.6] and increasing the weight considerably to keep caster/power based classes from using it without more severe CD consequences, say [2.0 - 1.4] which is the current weight for GPS/Graal.

I love the Piranha, but seriously ever match I play now, I see that everyone is carrying it. I use it on all of my adepts and vanguards because it has no true drawbacks with cover boosts and smart choke. On my Turian Soldier and Destroyer, it is a boss killing machine at long range. I don't want to even get started on how well it works on my GI.

You need to address this now, because it is already getting out of hand.

~Edit~

Did some quick shots with Piranha and Claymore on a GI. Now outside of the the Smart Choke on the weapons, the GI gets a 15% accuracy boost with Hunter Mode. You get a similar boost from firing from cover, as well as a recoil reduction, but I did not fire from cover here. this is about 25 Meters...

When you factor in classes that get a much larger ACC boost....

~Edit~

Since people still do not understand that cover gives you accuracy and recoil bonuses, I did a test with an Asari at 15M from cover. You can see that if you aim slightly to the right side of your targets, most of the time you are going to land 6-7 pellets. On a larger target such as a Prime, Brute, or Atlas you will almost always land all of them at a reasonably safe distance from cover.

~edit~

Platinum vs Reapers, one wave. Bear in mind that while I can solo Gold, it is not easy for me to do so and Platinum involved a lot of running about that let shields regen. Also, the lag from the recording program makes it very difficult.

Gold vs Reapers

Gold vs Cerb, still uploading

~Edit~

Perhaps there is a misunderstanding in the thread title or the way I am
coming across. I do not think the weapon needs an across the board
'nerf'. I think it needs a small nerf to either dps (return to
original), rof, clip size, or increase the weight. Some other options
have been mentioned that seem reasonable as well, such as lowering the
amount of damage it does to either sheilds or armor, or removing the
bonus from accuracy skills towards pellet spread.

Sorry if it seemed that I wanted 'ALL' of these things done at once.

Mmmm....
No. It's very similar to the Reegar, in that it has a very accurate/high damage at short range but with a distinct drop off at range.

I'm gonna say no, even though, I think, everyone sees this coming. I hope they leave the weight alone, as I am sure they are probably gonna lower its DPS...sadly.

No, stop asking for ****ing nerfs to everything good, instead ask for buffs for everything that sucks. Goddammit, people like you flooding the forums with nerf requests are killing the game.

OMG please stop with this "balance" crap. The shotgun is fine the way it is. Can't people just enjoy the game without nit picking everything or worrying about what others are using?

All you nerfers can go to the bad place.
All you nerfers can go to the bad place.
All you nerfers can go to the bad place.

The pirahnna should stay the same weight, and should keep it's shot damage and shot accuracy. It doesn't one hit kill anything and unloading a full clip (8 shots) doesn't guarantee a kill. Any nerfing would ruin the gun. Not to mention it has a very short effective range.

Lowered DPS, not needed, the classes making it shines are the weapons expert one, like the Destroyer, GI or Turian Soldier. On other classes it's actually balanced to be a good weapon on Gold / Platinum.

Increased Weight, just no, this weapon is meant to be a compact weapon for CQC characters like Vanguards or the N7 Fury, increasing the weight would kill this specificity.

I knew it, I knew someone was gonna call for nerfs.
Seriously, it really isn't that long range on other classes like caster classes, which is kind of what it was meant for with its light weight, and it's only really op when used with the right mods/classes.
if I were to tone it down I would decrease its rof if anything, or increase recoil.... but I wouldn't ever tone it down.

If it bothers you to see someone using the piranha, then leave the lobby. And of course everyone's going to be using it just like any other new weapon that comes out.

Agreed, BS! The Claymore (rare) is not the benchmark for SG's in Ultra Rare, just don't use it if it bothers you

I would not be surprised if it happens, however, the low accuracy more than makes up for it. To take on bosses effectively with it you already have to gamble instakills.

What I like about the Pirahnna is that makes non-CQ characters a little less squishy up close.

Don't nerf the Pirahnna, make the Talon stronga! Image IPB
