No. That's the exact same gun on infiltrators and destroyers. I don't want it nerfed, but if anything, it needs a small damage nerf. We need less bosses and smarter enemies. The gun seems powerful because every pellet lands on bosses, but that's not usually the case with troopers.

Trivial is pretty hyperbolic.

I have several opposing ideas rattling in my head about the Piranha.
1) On paper, you are right. This gun is too light for it's DPS.
2) In practicality, against most enemies, a skilled a skilled player will be lucky to get 75% of that due to the inaccuracy of this gun.  This gun has essentially one purpose, to take down bosses.  To do even that, the player must be darn near the sync kill zone and be exposed while firing his entire clip.  It is a secondary weapon, not a primary one.  Anyone who tries to use this a primary weapon will probably be in spectator mode for most of the time after wave 3, and if they aren't then they are good enough to use whatever weapon they want in the first place.
3). A lot of people on here understandably have nerf fatigue. Watching a weapon get a 40% DPS hit while enemies get a curb stomping buff, tends to do that to players. Especially after the TC nerf, the HM nerf, the BE nerf, the headshot elimination patch, the first Krysae nerf, etc.
4) Why do balancers insist on comparing everything to the Claymore?  Is the goal of balance really to make everything in the game just slightly crappier than the Claymore?
5) I didn't agree with the buff that this gun got, but this gun is not a game breaker like the original Krysae and Falcon arguably were.  At worst, Casters are going to carry it as back weapon against bosses on higher difficulties and that will result in a higher variety of classes participating in Platinum.

How does an increase in weight makes the Piranha less interesting for other characters? Isn't a (big) increase in weapon damage, at the cost of marginally slower recharge timers, a good deal? I think most people greatly overrate the importance of cooldowns. The difference between a 3 or a 4 second cooldown makes hardly any difference in most situations whereas the difference between a good and a poor weapon is gigantic.


On Platinum and even Gold it takes far less then a second for enemies to down you, and now that they'll also execute downed players, getting dropped is a bigger potential risk. Also It's not trading a poor weapon for a good one. In the case of say an Asari Adept a Carnifex, Talon, and Paladin good with the proper levels give them a +200% cooldown, none of those weapons are poor.

As dday3six said, the effective range is right in the face. If we nerf the damage or rate of fire, the majority of the players will be greatly disadvantaged. I do admit the gun is delicious against huge enemies.

Pretty much. The only thing increasing its weight would do is ruin the gun for Vanguards. The class it seemed to be aimed for.

Please God. The gun is fine. Using it for the damage you are seeing requires being close, even with a Smart Choke, outside of MM/Turians/GI HM.

We are not competing with each other. It's a team effort and nerfing powerful weapons will only make it harder to win.

I think the really interesting question is not whether the Piranha is OP or not, but rather why it is the only shotgun (other than the Crusader) with a different aiming reticle...
There must be some reason I reckon, but I can't see it... :/

Okay you got me.:whistle:

They buffed the damage just a week ago so it would be silly to debuff that. clip capacity is also another viable solution. I think right now it carries 8 in a clip and 64 spare. Make it work like the harrier so you are limited by the ammo or you waste a mod slot for more ammo. It is a close combat shotgun but in gold and plat everything is looking to melee you so range isnt a problem.

Distance? I would rather see a video of accuracy tests then a screen shot. you can easily just move closer to the wall and fire to mislead how accurate the weapon really is.




This is what I was thinking. I've used the Piranha with accuracy mods and smart choke and have never experienced such tight spreads...........unless I was touching the wall with my nose...........:huh:
