Hello,

Lately, I've been playing an archer in DA:O and something bugs me. I searched over the forum and on the internet but it seems I can't find the exact answer, so here it is:

- If my bow/gloves has the "Rapid Shot", according to the math I saw, I think the aiming math would be negative, but IG, it would be the equivalent of 0. However, the aiming cd would still be negative, right?
- Aim seems to add cd to -well- the aim.

So according to those 2 statements, which I'm not sure about those, would it be benefict to have "Rapid Shot" equipement and the Aim Mode activated on my character? Or does the Aim Mode just cancel every "Rapid Shot" I will wear?

Thank you very much for answering me :)

The conclusion seems to be that DPS is reduced by Aim without an unpatched version of the Repeater Gloves or Shale's Rock Mastery activated. Items with Rapid Aim, singely or combined with other Rapid Aim items, cannot completely compensate for the rate of fire reduction by the Aim talent. For example, a longbow with Rapid Aim reduces aim time by 0.3s, which reduces the time to 0 for a longbow since the longbow aim speed is, itself, 0.3. Far Song, for example, will have an aim speed of 0s. Remember that animation length cannot go below 0.

The Aim talent, however, adds 1.5 seconds. Let's say you have an archer Rogue that uses Far Song. The aim speed is 1.5s, since the -0.3 from FS's Rapid Aim only covers the basic 0.3 of a longbow. Now let's say your character is a Rogue in Awakening and they wear the Fingers of the Nimble, a Rogue only item. The Rapid Aim modifier of FotN is -0.5 (rather than -0.3, which is what the patched version of the Repeater Gloves is). The aim speed, with Aim activated, is now at 1. If the character also wears the Armsman's Tensioner or Camenae's Barbute (both of which have a reduction of -0.3), the aim time is reduced to 0.7. Stacking Rapid Aim items alone (e.g. without also using Rock Mastery), this is the best you can do.

Rapid Aim items in combination with Rock Mastery, however, can reduce the aim time back to 0. This is because Shale's Rock Mastery reduces aim speed by 1.

However, if you install a mod to fix the bug with the Haste spell and Swift Salves, you can reduce the aim speed down to 0 without the use of Rock Mastery. Just remember that Haste reduces it by 0.9 and Swift Salves by 0.8, leaving 0.6 and 0.7 aim speed, respectively, to compensate with Rapid Aim items.

In conclusion, let's say that a theoretical female Dalish Elf Warrior in Origins is armed with Far Song, wears the patched version of the Repeater Gloves, and has her head protected by the Armsman's Tensioner. She will have an aim reduction of -0.6. This reduces the Aim talent's 1.5s aim time to 0.9. To redue the aim speed to 0, the Haste spell or Shale's Rock Mastery is needed. A Swift Salve, unaided by Haste or Rock Mastery, in the same setup would only reduce it to 0.1, which is by no means bad.

::wipes brow and takes a swig of ale::

Hope this helps!

Just as brother tancred said, use aim only if you have unpatched repeater gloves or shale is in your party with rock mastery active.

If you like using mods then the haste and swift salve bug fixes can be used.

I like to think the repeater gloves bug to be a compensation for the haste bugs. lol

Been meaning to ask this... has it ever been officially confirmed anywhere that the -3.0 stat on the Repeater Gloves is actually a bug? I get the whole 0.3 vs 3.0 thing, but it doesn't seem that far off of the other gear you find in RtO.

tpp - I agree with you. I've been wondering about the same thing for quite a while now. Whatever the case may be, I like it as it is. Using these gloves in awakening with aim and accuracy on is pure murder. Lol

Aim improves the archer's critical chance and grants bonuses to attack score, damage, and armor penetration. Master Archer further increases these bonuses.

So my best guess is that Aim is worth it in Origins. Rapid Shot as an activated talent I do not use, since it cancels out all the benefits of Aim.

I do use all the equipment that gives a rapid aim bonus. Rapid aim is not the same thing as Rapid Shot, just to be clear on that point.
