Considering that all six new characters are really fun to play, and that 5/6 are also very good, I see no problem with this challenge.

It's not a problem for most of us but some folks want something extra shiny that they don't already have in order to feel good about helping others (because the helping others part isn't reward enough).

I'll be pitching in, even though I have the characters unlocked, because other gamers don't, including ones that tried like hell last operation. Don't forget the screw up on the ending time that cut 18 hours off of trying for everyone, thus prompting the new timer. I think we would have made it with 18 more hours.

people i dont know and never will know.
i dont know what about you, but i dont play
to make friends. i know teamwork is important
& i always try my best to extract the full team,
but just because i gain something for that.
but in that case, i just can't see a good reason.
if i would get at least a "thanks" from anybody,
but it even if i would help to extract hundreds of players,
no one would care about that. i hope you see my point.
i also dont care if someone thinks i'm selfish or something
like that, but like a few people mentioned before,
it's just a game, not real life. so i dont care what
others think or others do. if someone wants to help
the community i can live with that. it's just my opinion,
and not only mine, that a little, shiny rare card
is not an adequate reward for that kind of helping.

I've had the complete opposite experience, honestly. Maybe you should join a group of like-minded people and stick to private matches if the rest of us are so terrible to be around.

meh, if i had unlocked all the classes (3 of 6 atm so 50% of a nice, new shiny... and 50% of a shiny new coat of paint on a uniform), i'd still do it. 

i'm not sure why people are up in arms about having fun and maybe helping another gamer out in the process.

Then, don't do it. 
Look you either go along with it or not. You obviously don't care enough or are too bitter about the community to participate beyound your own needs, so stick with that and let other people do the community goal. 

I have to say, though, that I don't really get the idea that your doing this (playing ME3 MP) for fun. You wipe on wave 10 after you get your credits, not even going into wave 11 with half-heart.
