Why is it that when I open my plug-in/map editor my map shows up black? I’m using a tga image with 647x647 pxl as per Sunjammers World Map Guide. I really don’t know what else could be wrong, any idea’s?

The real kicker is when I open the map up in-game the map looks fine. I just can't get it to work in the plug-in.

You probably are using win 7 or vista...this is a known issue...there are work around, but I don't remember at the moment...something to do with opening the world map editor before opening your module in the toolset.

Yup, I have a copy of a pair of work-arounds (that worked for me) in vol. 1, p. 105 of the NWNs toolset notes, linked below. You might give that a whirl.

Thanks guy’s, just so happen that I have another computer in my house with xp operating system and of course nwn2 loaded as well. So I was able to fix my problem that way.
@rjshae, really nice job with the NWN2 Toolset Notes, very impressive and a must have.

running into this right now... the work-arounds of the toolset notes didn't help so i played around with the toolset.exe. after enabling compatability mode (xp sp2) the world map shows after reloading the tga. if this doesn't work you could also disable visual themes within the compatability mode. afterwards the plugin worked without a flaw, even the tgas of the hotspots showed up.
i'll necro this thread because it pops up after searching for help with google

Glad you posted, Semper, gives me an excuse to bump an old thread. Sadly, neither your suggestions nor rjshae's toolset notes are helping me. It keeps coming up with "Application incompatible". I'm using the NWN Complete Collection, if that makes a difference.

Semper's suggestions worked for me! Thanks! I've been putting off messing with the map because of issues..

What issue of the game are you using, ColorsFade? It's possible that the already-patched version that ships with the DnD Compilation edition is different from the version you and Semper are using. It's also possible that I'm not using compatibility mode correctly. I'm right-clicking on NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe, choosing "Troubleshoot compatibility" (it's the only option with the word "compatibility" in it), and selecting XP SP2, but no joy. The error message that keeps being returned is "Incompatible application".
In the meantime, I'm getting around the issue by placing signs and roadmarkers, making them conversible, and handling area transitions through dialogue. Old IE modding trick.

guess we're talking about different issues here, right? the world map plugin is a plugin within nwn2's toolset which lets you build your map with destinations as pins. "incompatible application" sounds as if your toolset won't start.

No, we're talking about the same thing. The toolset works fine - everything but the map - but I can't use the worldmap editor plugin because all I get is a black screen when I open the tga. I was hoping that your suggestion to open the toolset in compatibility mode would enable me to use the map plugin, but no luck.

When you right-click on the Toolset EXE file, you should see this page:

If you don't, you're maybe not clicking on the EXE? Maybe the shortcut?
I had the exact same problem you did: black screen opening the TGA. Every time. But this fixed it. My version of the toolset is 1.0.23.1765.

Ah, no, I was clicking on the EXE, but I was choosing the wrong option. You got to that screen by selecting "Properties" and changing the compatibility from there. I attempted to use the "compatibility wizard" to fix it. In other words, I was attempting to use an executable to change an executable... which, now that I think about it, sounds pretty doomed. I won't know until later if it works, but thank you for attaching that screenshot! It allows me to see precisely what I was doing wrong.
I really would prefer to go with a more elegant "map" travel solution as opposed to having clunky placeables all over the place that players may overlook.
Edit: It worked! Thanks much!

Hello,
I already use that configuration with my toolset, with the exception of the "Run this program as an administrator". Is the last is what provides the work-around?

Okay. Well I still ran into problems with the black map image, so that's why I experimented with those other work-arounds.
