I've had this happen several times across multiple playthroughs and seem to get different results each and every time I do the fade sequence in the circle of mages quest. The only constant has been that when playing as a mage, lyrium veins are ALWAYS accessable. I've done this portion of the game as a mage, a warrior, and rogue, several times with rogues and warriors, but only once as a mage. In some playthroughs the rogue and warrior can use lyrium veins so long as they are in a shapesifted form, but in others they are unusable regardless of what I do. I've had both results on both hard and nightmare and can't figure out what is actually SUPPOSED to be happening.

p.s.
AM currently going through the fade as my new human female noble rogue archer, she can use lyrium veins in shapeshifted form. Playing on nightmare.

How strange. I know Oghren couldn't use the lyrium veins in the deep roads because he was a dwarf...were these rogues and warriors of yours dwarves by chance?

I haven't rolled a dwarf character so I'm just speculating.  I didn't have any problems with using them on elven rogue.

Edit: Ah ok.

I was a dwarf for at least a few of them as it's my favorite of the bunch and the race I've played the most. I honestly don't remember if it was only dwarves that couldn't use them though. That's a damned good idea though, it might be dwarf specific. I'm going to have to roll another dwarf and see what happens.

Lyrium only replenishes mana, if your form/class has no mana, the nodes don't do anything. It would be nice if they changed it so that it also restores stamina at least in the fade/dream part but alas it does not.

Hmm...it would be nice if they restored stamina, but I thought the veins also restored health which was why my rogue was tapping them??

That is absolutely NOT what's happening. In the regular game world, yes, lyrium only restores mana. But in the fade, if you are in a shapeshifted form, it restores both health and mana. Which is what this thread is all about. The fade section of the circle of magi quest.

Ok now I'm curious if it is a dwarf thing, reloaded an old save was able to tap a node with my rogue in elven form in my fight v. Yevrena (Raw Fade.) The node restored both health and stamina.

If it's a dwarf issue, that would be pretty unfair. :(

Edit: Just tested the nodes at the Anvil of the Void with both Oghren and my rogue.  I activated tainted blades on my rogue, let it run for a bit and was able to use the nodes to restore health.  I could also tap the nodes (i.e. graphic goes off) at full health on my rogue, however with Oghren nothing happens.

I think it is a Dwarf issue. According to the game lore Dwarfs do not enter the Fade when they Sleep. I'm playing my first Dwarf Char and I'm noticing that I cannot access Lyrium Veins. My human Chars could access the veins even in normal form for Stam and Health.

I am playing through as a dwarf, my first dwarven warrior and he cannot access the lyrium veins either, I only have the mouse form at the moment, but so far it seems to be a dwarf issue as stated.

Edit: I could use the veins when I played through as my elven rogue

Its no "dwarf issue".

Dwarves get 10% spell resistance and cant use lyrium veins.

Unfair ? Nope, not at all. I'd do that trade any day.

Yes, and lyrium veins also heal. And they restore either mana or stamina.

It's right there in the codex. Dwarves cannot be mages because they have developed a natural resistance/immunity to lyrium over thousands of years, due to their work mining it and smithing with it. Of course, it also makes no sense that dwarves get pulled into the Fade by the Sloth Demon, but I guess BioWare didn't want to cut such a significant portion of the game for dwarf players.

Dwarves in Dragon Age really are kind of weird... it seems like they were totally ignored when it comes to scripting cutscenes (camera doesn't follow them properly due to their height, for example, and the whole issue mentioned above), but they also have the most interesting location in the game, and probably the best origins. It's like BioWare wanted the game to centre around the dwarves, but then realised most players would be human, so geared everything around that instead.

So just to clarify --even in shapeshifted form, my dwarf cannot make use of any lyrium veins in the Fade?

This is important because if that's true, I think I have to start this whole Broken Circle quest over again. I'm in my very first playthrough of this game, as a female dwarf rogue, and I found myself in the fade with 5 health poultices and a lesser health poultices to my name. I thought I'd be all right because hey, enemies drop health poultices all the time, right? Or I'll find them in cabinets or pick up some Elfroot or something. At the very least I'll just rescue my healer ASAP. Well, I got through the Raw Fade, the Burning Tower and Mages Asunder only using 2 health poultices, but I just checked out a FAQ on the Fade and found out how much left I have to do all by myself before I ever get to rescue anybody, and there's no way I'm experienced or talented enough at this type of RPG to get through all that with what I have left.

[Edit]: I now realize that this thread does not belong on this board at all, sorry. . .I had just Googled "dwarf lyrium veins Fade" and it brought me here. I'd still appreciate any help you can give, though.
