I threw all my money at them this morning. A 20 dollar (18 right now if you pre-order) price point is a very acceptable range, imo. Considering, say, the DLC for Skyrim -- Dawnguard -- was 20 bucks and only offers about 4-6 hours of game, it sounds pretty acceptable. The Black Pits will be 6+ hours of game, and three new companions can bring about a ton of new content and playthroughs with various party combinations.

Though I do wonder how such things like party banter and such will work in BGI, if we'll have any at all. It may just be a lot of NPC->talks to PC content. I'm okay with that too, especially since they added romance content and sidequests for each companion. I imagine that if banter and lively activity isn't part of this BG, it will definitely be in BGII+ToB's rehaul next year. I'd be surprised more if the team made BGI's pretty silent cast of characters much more talkative, bantery, and interactive.

I read elsewhere that the original cast isn't getting any new banter. Imoen will be as mute as ever throughout the game. It's going to lead to an odd disconnect where the three newcomers are very talkative and everyone else chimes in once in a millennium. I'm probably going to play a chaotic neutral bard and take all three along for the ride.

When they decide to put it on Steam, I'll buy. I already own the originals but would like to add this to my virtual collection.

Gah...I was hoping for an August release. Priorities in September:

1. Baldur's Gate EE
2. University

Why are so many people so impatient for a game's release nowadays? That kind of attitude only enccourages shorter development cycles and released garbage like DA 2, y'know. Personally, I didn't expect BGEE's release until somewhere near the end of September, beginning of October, even. Anyway, I am definitely going to buy this one. :)

Agreed, but I would be going off topic if I were to continue what you stated, lol.

Can't wait for this :D

I'm in.

I would have liked a Steam release, but if they can't get the percentages needed through Steam, no worries afaic. TBH I like clientless direct download even better than Steam anyway.

Omgomgomg please please please take my money. Release day DLCs, hot metal rod deep in nether acting as DRM,Activisionesque price tag.. I'd care not of any of these things. I just want to buy Baldur's Gate and be young again!!
...*sob*

I'm hoping for a Collector's Edition loaded with cloth maps and whatnot.

18 hours of new content.. good lord! Imagine how infinitely epic duration the full Saga will end up having. Specially when you pair it all up with some of the best already existing(and mayhaps up and coming!) community mods.

Longer still since one of the devs wrote on Twitter that there will be DLC eventually. It's more Baldur's Gate than any sane person can handle. Fortunately most of us do not qualify.

Never played before but definitely getting it.

I'll play a female character. Anyone have suggestions on who to romance? I want the rest of the game to be a surprise, but I'd hate to have regrets about my LI later.

The love interests in this game are new, so no suggestions can be given I'm afraid. The original series didn't introduce full fledged romances until Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.

That'll be quite a noteable disconnect, indeed.  Ah well, I have three new companions to entertain me at least.  And romance.  Oh bebbeh.  <3

I think I'll be playing a chaotic neutral thief/mage.

From what I've understood, more or less all existing mods will work with very little tweaking. This means pretty healthy quantities of extremely well written banter to those who don't mind "tainting" the taste of Vanilla:p

BG I banter packs remains among most impressive mods I've ever come across for any game ever.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that. I used to be a diehard vanilla lover. Earlier this year I downloaded my first BG and BG2 mods to finally see what all the fuss is about. Then Beamdog announces this remake and I decide to put my annual playthroughs on hold. XD Talk about bad timing.

I don't know how keen I am on the new romances. We'll see when the game is out. I admit, my first thought was mild disappointment at no same-sex female option. Although the s/s option is not my favorite choice in every game, I like for the choice to be there. Still, it's more Baldur's Gate. I'll live.

I hope there will be at least non voiced banter between the old crew and the new. As long as they stay in character, I don't mind having to just read.

Am I correct in thinking that it's download only? I'd love a boxed release with a cool manual like BG2 had. You just don't get good manual's these days.

they mentioned in a FAQ thread that they are still negotiating with the publisher (atari) for a boxed collector's edition release.

Ah, thanks. I'll wait for word on that then.

Same here. I'm old fashioned in that I prefer physical goods over digital ones.

This is kinda what I had in mind too, like one of the new characters opens up with a voiced line of banter directed at one of the older party members, and everything else after that is just mute text. In fact, they kinda did that already to some degree in the original game. I mean it would be really weird if the new characters never interacted one bit with any of the older ones. I dunno.

Graphics aren't improved ppl and there's already a high res mods and tons of others. They look as if they took original backgrounds, upscaled them and applied blur.

Wake me up when they 'enhance' it with turn based combat and a proper grid or at least some better friggin pathfinding.

When did the word remaster take on a new meaning? Beamdog has never said they would change existing content or mechanics. Posted Image

Not saying I expected that.  These are the things that really improve the games though.

Wait how would making the combat turn based improve the game over being able to pause the game and give orders that get carried out in real time? I mean I get that you dont like to play games that require reflexes or any kind of player skill to play but I am not sure making the combat fully turn based would improve the game?

I am so looking forward to getting this again! So excited! I haven't played in years and I'm so looking forward to that flood of nostalgia mixed with excitement over some new content... squee! I can hear it now... "You must gather your party before venturing forth."

Baldur's Gate could really be improved by changing the final showdown into a protracted three stage battle, each stage seeing Sarevok transforming into something larger and more grotesque than before, and this all happening on the astral plane with some big orchestra phony Latin chant playing in the background.

You can turn combat in turn based by selecting "pause after every turn" from the menu.
And i dont think they can improvise pathfinding much, especially in narrow corridors, this thing is like a trade mark of infinity engine sadly.
