LOL.

Yeah, no.  I can complete a game without consulting three strangers who have absolutely no interest in what I have to say and I honestly don't blame them because the feeling is mutual.

I'd rather you not have a mic. I've only played with 15 ish or so people since launch who have been either really entertaining or really helpful, everyone else bleghhh

This post contains so much logic, that if any Bioware employee looked at it for more than 2 seconds, their brains would explode and vacate out through their ears.

On high difficulties, I have trouble hitting the Xbox guide button and hitting A to accept a party request without dying or hampering the team. Spending 10 seconds recording a voice message is even worse.

Typing is similarly disabling- I wouldn't want to be on a team of typers. I mean, at least you don't get your whole screen blocked while typing, and can cancel if you see a need. But voice is still so much more effective.

Also, I hate both spammed macros and ridiculous abbreviations. Just buy a mic. They're cheap.

I just didn't want you to think that I mentioned the age of twelve to mock your post. It looked pretty callous of me.

I rarely use my mic anymore unless Im with friends. Most of the time people are talking about things that aren't relevent to the task at hand. Hell, this morning while playing a gold match I had the pleasure of listening to a conversation with two grown ass men debating about Zelda and if the main character was left or right handed....WTF.

I find (at least for me3), if you need to communicate through the mic, you tend to have lower situational awareness skills.

That is utter nonsense.

I always have my mic ready but playing PUGs means a lot of people who can't communicate and/or people in XBL parties who don't bother inviting me so we can coordinate.  There are things which would help but are almost impossible to know about other players and when they remain unknown the game can be severely hindered.

For example, Cobras:  How many do you have?  How many have you used?  Are you going to use one to clear the hack point so we can invest it, or should i?

Medi-Gel:  How many (again)?  Do you need me to run into a group of enemies so far away to revive you or could you just use a gel?  Did you have your Cobra equipped before they took you down so that you can get up and take out that mess around you or should I take care of it?

Powers:  Do you want to detonate or should I?  Could you switch overload targets so that I can do some easier BEs?

Enemies:  There are a couple hunters in that room.  I'm leading a banshee to you guys.  Leave that Atlas alone so we can take out <x> that's closer to us.

If you truly believe that you can have awareness of everything important happening on the map, then you're either fooling yourself, using magic, or possess some awesome tech/software that reveals things to you that you shouldn't otherwise be able to see.

You don't need to know their medi-gel count, etc to win at the game. Sure a mic helps, but they're are not vital.

I've completed many gold and a few platinum games with no mics on the whole team, with ease.

You also don't need a mic for teamwork. You can see what others are doing, know what capabilities of theirs work well with yours. When you understand the mechanics of the game, a mic isn't a vital asset.

I don't really care, you can't coordinate with mutes and they aren't dependable in the sense that you can't get a confirmation of "yes I'll cast Reave on that Atlas so you can shockwave and get a BE." So you sort of depend on yourself rather than the team when dealing with mutes. They also aren't dependable in doing objectives or really pulling their weight on the team. Actually typing this response makes me hate mutes.

This cracks me up. I've played this game since the very beginning and play mostly PUGS when no friends are on and I've rarely ever had a problem with lack of teamwork.
90% of the games I play we get extraction, with no one saying a word. You get your occasional bad squad but for the most part when the crap hits the fan the team tends to synergize. At least thats been my experience.

Be more judgemental and narrow minded would you please?

I don't have a mic, one of my daughters broke it, on top of that we have a seven month old son.
Walls are thin in this house, using a mic WILL wake him up, he likes my voice, go figure.
So real lfie presents me with limitations and I work around it, I don't NEED a mic to figure out what you're doing, I can look at a team setup in a lobby and figure out what I should switch to.

Reading your response makes me hate elitist jerks with microphones, guess what buddy you're not that awesome.
I play gold and platnium, without a mic, and do awesome, I don't need one, but maybe you're so bad that you need voice communication instead of using your brain to figure things out in a fast manner.

Also, people with mics that don't have it on PTT, don't put the mic next to your mouth so your exhalations trigger it, also I don't want to hear your damn desk or room fan, I also don't want to hear your Russian TV news broadcast, I don't want to hear you talking with your girlfriend for the entire match either.

Man just typing this makes me hate people with mics! ;)

I have two month old twins that sleep next to me while I play go figure they don't mind if I talk while they sleep, so I have a life and family too but that doesn't really address any of my points does it?  If I run a Turian Sentinel you can't you tell in the lobby whether I have him speced for Overload or Warp just by looking at him, can you?  That's one reason why you might need a mic.  In ALL cases players without mics can't be depended on;  I've never played with someone without a mic that I knew he was going to pull an objective or clear a hack circle with a missle why because I'm not a mindreader.

Also having a mic doesn't make you elitist and holding a belief that people without mics can't be depended on does not make you elitist.  Stay out of my games and I'll stay out of yours also keep your four year old away from my mic.

I might be more inclined to use a mic if it wasn't for annoying vanguards yelling at me to revive them from the opposite end of the map. It is not the rest of the teams fault when you rush into a mob on your own and get overwhelmed. I tend to play these games to release stress, not to grow ulcers thanks.

I've done my share of gold with no communication, too.  That doesn't make your statement about "lower situational awareness" anything close to true, nor does it make no-mic play the ideal to which we should aspire.

Hate is a strong word, no hate here, just stay out of the lobbies I am hosting on gold +, if you can co ordinate your game without a mic playing with friends then that is what you should do and where you may want to hang your hat.

Bronze and Silver doesn't matter after that it makes for a smooth ride, besides that the friends that I play with, all of whom have a mic, we enjoy joking around, talking about whatever and then when an enemy somehow is at your back, they can inform you.

We can go through gold on a regular basis using next to no consumables, that is team work.

The best games I've played on Silver/Gold are games in which the leader particularly makes suggestions and gets feedback.

I meant for PC lobbies, mainly.

So that if you don't have a mic, you can do some planning and organizing before the game starts.

It's a big difference to players like me who aren't good enough to "carry" others on Gold. When I play with a crew that coordinates, near 100% success ratio. In a PUG game where no one talks, only win maybe 1 out of every 6 or 7 matches (and usually because someone on the team IS good enough to carry others...).

If you need a mic to win, your awareness is low. I never said it was ideal. I said mics are not vital.

I'm a shy person; always have been and will be. Also, I will not risk having verbal garbage spewed at my direction just because someone doesn't like the sound of my voice.

Also, most of the mic users I've heard were either complete jerks or I couldn't understand the language they're speaking.

Same here. I checked over in the tech support section and it sounds like a lot of people have this problem, but no word from bioware.
