I thought it looked like a brindle rottweiler myself...but if you want a dog smart enough to do what the mabari supposedly do...you need a border collie.
My border collie opens and closes doors on command, fetches cats by herding them in a tight circle, turns light switches on and off, unscrews coke bottle caps for fun, and understands the names for each of her toys and will bring the correct one. She could school serious darkspawn butt.

But can she find the G-spot?

Akitas run about 55 kilos. English Mastiffs get fully twice that size.

I think the Mabari looks and acts very much like a Staffie:

They're just the size of a Mastiff.

Yeah... That might look impresive if you don't know what size a Whippet is.

Still, the mutation which causes this kind of muscle overgrowth has been identified (and remarkably, it's just a deactivation of one gene which causes this, things are rarely so simple)  so we have the theoretical ability to do this to any dog breed... if someone wanted to spend the money.

personally i think a boxer is as close as you will get in real life, though you would need to seriously work him out to get him up to the same muscle mass.

Though the nature of Mabari seems to be a lot like an Australian Cattle Dog (I own one) and there also are those in the elven alienage...

ingame the mabari is treated as a pure breed. But in real-life i think you would need a mixed-breed between... maybe a Bull mastiff and a rottweiler

Mabari seem quite common round my way, but you seem to need the right equipment to use them.

Peaked Burberry cap (-5 Cunning)

Hooded top of concealment (Can be combined with cap for increased Aggro. bonus but losing conceal effect.)

Trackie bottom grieves (+1 Dex)

Dirty trainers of speed (+1 Dex) n.b. when Trackie bottoms are tucked into dirty trainers further +1 Dex bonus and additional aggro gained.

Set Bonus (-10 Cunning, +5 dex, extreme aggro. bonuses.)

We have an English Bulldog. Despite their rep for supposedly being able to take down raging bulls, they are wussy couch potatoes.

So, if we crossed a Rottweiler, mastiff, and border collie, we'd have a Mabari. Am I right? Or at least close?

Whatever. I want one. And in DAge 2, I want Mabari PUPPIES that can be cuddled with and raised. YES. Ahem. Cute doggies, the lot of them. Well, the ones I run across that try to eat my throat out... those are not so cute. But mine is!

I agree, the Presa Canario and the Dogo Argentino are the first breed of dog I thought of, at least in the looks department.

I could have sworn it was a Mabari that I had a staring contest with when I was serving my mission in Texas.

Rottweilers are the closest thing you could get; especially if you look at the history of the breed.

Romans used them for exactly the same purpose.

Has to be a Boerboel as someone mentioned earlier. Twenty eight inches at the withers, weighing in at 200 pounds. Colors mirror those of the mabari in game, and it is a working breed. Intelligent, loyal, powerful, with jaws that can easily tear through bone and flesh.
