I'm kinda late to the party regarding the anime so forgive me if this has been posted before.
The movie I thought was ok. Great animation, acting, music, etc but the story was kind of so-so. I mean if you couldn't guess who the villains were on first glance then shame on you. Anyways I'm just confused about when the events of DotS take place.
Based on the Knight-Commander's line "We are ushering in a new era for the Chantry! One where events like Kirkwall will not be tolerated!" and the films ending where Cassandra recieves her mission (presumably to Kirkwall) it's pretty safe to say that it takes place between the start of the Mage/Templar War and her interrigation of Varric.
But if that is the case and the War has indeed begun then what the hell was the Orlesian Circle doing defending the Chantry? Where was their rising up with their fellow mages? Casting of the chains to fight their oppressors? Did they refuse to join the war or something? Did only a few memebers go to war? Is their circle better treated than the others? (Mind you anywhere would be better than Kirkwall).
I'm sorry but this is really bugging the hell out of me. Just where and how on the timeline does this all fit?
Dawn of the Seeker in relation to DA2's events.

Dawn of the Seeker is set after the end of Dragon Age 2's Act 3, but before the events of Asunder, which details how the **** finally hit the fan.
The mages didn't rebel immediately after Kirkwall. What actually happened was that Kirkwall prompted the Templars to crack down a lot harder on the mages, even going so far as to dissolve the College of Magi. Certain elements within the Chantry also begin to see their current leadership as too weak. Eventually, there was trouble at the Circle in Val Royeaux that finally prompted the Circle to officially declare their separation from the Chantry. The templars followed suit not long afterwards.
I don't think you necessarily have to regard Dawn of the Seeker as canon, though, unless DA3 rolls around and Galyan is in the line-up.
