I have an Xbox 360 sent in for repair for like the 4th time but this time its allegedly out of warranty (Which is BS I've had it less than a year its one they gave me earlier in the year from another repair)
I tried to do some searching and stuff says $130 or $150 , though one was some gamespot forum post from 2007 when Xbox 360s were like $400 new
But now an Xbox 360 is $199.99 brand new , so if they wanna try to send my Xbox 360 back with a bill asking for any 3 digit price they can **** off and I'll go buy a PS3 instead and just disown the Xbox company whenever my final Xbox 360 (That I'm playing on now) eventually and inevitably drops dead
What does an out of warranty Xbox 360 repair cost now?

Hello
An arcade-version is about 150euros in germany. so if a repair is about 100 euros (thats the last price I heard for a repair outside warranty) I would buy a new console(arcade) and change the (old) hd to that one. Your gamertag can be transfered easily. A PS3 would be nice also. But I have to say, MS is doing very well lately. Special offers, game price drops and cool competitions. And their support is really effectful. One call, one sentence, one help advise - worked so far. As it should be.
I wouldnt change my xbox for anything else these days ;-)

I've heard that an Xbox 360 Elite CAN'T get the RROD , is that true? If that is true then if it comes down to it I would rather just buy an elite

Im not really familar with all console setups. But I have heard that they are using different motherboards for the newer xboxes (all models). Perhaps its true what you have said. An black xbox would be great, but my one seems to live forever :-)

I just googled it and some person said their Xbox 360 elite did RROD but it took 2 years for it to happen to it
So I guess while they aren't immune to RROD they are highly resistant to it but still... if they want to be jackasses I might just switch to PS3
Gonna need a PS3 for FFXIV anyway....

I was told $99 or so, plus the last time it happened it tuck almost a month to get it back. So iI but a base model for 120 bucks at a pawn store, verses $200 at the stores.

The supposed newer models with newer chipsets aren't really capable of RROD'ing.
BUT, the newer models are liable to get the dreaded "E74" error, something to do with the graphic card. In essence they fixed a RROD to replace it with a different kind of "RROD".
I live in the Netherlands, my Xbox360 was sent to germany. Without warranty I was supposed to pay €100,-

My elite got a RROD. So pissed about it too. $100 to get it fixed, MS pays for shipping both ways. I just threw it in a box and got on a plane to Iraq, so I'm not gonna mess with it. Spent $400 on that thing. Debating on sending it back when I'm home late next year or forgetting about it. As poker players say, "No use sending good money after bad."

When I got the RROD I sent my 360 in and got it repaired for free, despite the fact that my xbox was out of warranty at the time. I didn't even have to pay for shipping. I don't know if it's due to my location or another factor, but the repairs cost me nothing, and my xbox hasn't broken down since.

They came out with the Jasper model a year ago I think... whenever the arcade version came out that was the first series for jasper..It's supposedly rrod proof... I'm sure someone has gotten a rrod by now on one.. Mine died right when the jaspers came out so I just went and bought an arcade. They're only $199 and your old hard drives work with it so there's no reason to pay money for one with a hard drive.. plus it has an internal 256mb storage which is kind of nice. I haven't had any problems with it so maybe it was a good investment.. have to wait and see..
My first xbox was a refurbished and lasted about 3 years.

not sure what out of warranty costs, they charge a min. of $135.00. had my original release 360 for 2 years, got the rrod and they fixed it free. lasted 6 months, broke again and i called. sent it in and they sent me a new unit. have had that since with no issues and i use it quite a bit.

Just keep saying you got RROD'd and will take actions if they don't fix it for free. Everyone in the world acknowledges this is a common XBox360 problem and they rushed the product.
Just be firm and confident, perhaps get a lawyer? ;3

i think if it is the rrod they will fix for free even if it is out of warranty. like heart said, it is a known issue and they have acknowledged it is their mistake. if the person who answers your call gives you a hard time, ask to speak to a supervisor, they will take care of you.

Don't give up on xbox, as PS3 has many more issues. It's $99 for an out of warranty repair, and they pay for the shipping to and from. I just went through this ordeal with microsoft, so I'm a bit familiar. They also said that the new updates they do are more than just reapplying the goop and whatnot. They also repair any damaged CPU or whatever is wrong and add in a second heatsink.
Now the best thing you can do is call Microsoft give them your console's serial number and they can tell you if you're in the extended warranty or not. Good luck.

It's $99 for an out-of-warranty repair, as everyone else has said. My graphics chip failed in my last 360, and the repair price would have been $99. Of course, if you decide to extend your warranty after the repairs, it'll set you back more money. I just went out and bought a new Arcade for $199.
And don't forget, RROD Warranty is 3 years.

In the US, it costs $99 (if ordered online) to have an out-of-warranty 360 repaired. The price includes a 1 year warranty on the repaired box.

I've used this service twice, and the second time, it was still under the "post-service" warranty thus it was fixed for free. The entire process took one week (8 days technically, because of weekends).
By the way, this is a LOT more generous than the PS3. Sony gives us a whopping 3 months of warranty on the original purchase. If it is repaired, under warranty or out, you get exactly 30 days of warranty coverage on the repaired console.
