I know a lot of people disliked the Mako or the cookie-cutter mission types on the uncharted worlds. But I really loved that sense of isolation and being out in some corner of space that very few, or no people had ever been before. I actually used to find the highest peaks on these worlds and just look at the scenery. I loved those moments, because it's the only time I've been intrigued by the exploration of other worlds.  ME2 had some great locales for the side missions, but I really disliked the firebase method used in 3.  Nothing touched the uncharted worlds in my opinion, though.

I understand why they were removed in ME2 and 3, but to this day, it's one of the things that keeps ME1 special to me.

Yeah, I agree. There was a sense of eeriness and wonder that the sequels never managed to top.

I did, although my motivation was to drive/boost off the highest point I could find. Stopping and looking at the scenery was an added bonus.

I really missed the Mako in 2 and 3. Hammerhead was fun but just didn't cut it for me.

Cruising across the open worlds, sometimes having a Thresher Maw pop out was also something I missed. Cookie cutter or not, I'd take world-roaming over world-scanning anyday.

Nice pic. Remember the thrill of finding that big silver sphere floating in that valley?

The planet landing missions added mystery and a feeling of adventure to mass effect series. I was sad that they removed that aspect instead of polishing it.

Oh gods yes.The planets in ME1 made you feel like you were actually on another planet as opposed to earth clone #1345.

Yeah, I really loved uncharted worlds and was really looking forward to them in ME2 cause I tought that we would have a new vehicle. Not that I hated Mako but something little faster would have been nice. I'm pretty sad that explorations was cut of from ME2 and ME3. Also I want my elevators back, don't like the loading screens.

I loved exploring the planets in ME1. I really with they would have expanded and improved that aspect instead of scrapping it.

I loved the feeling of 'being on another planet'. You don't really get that feeling all too often in the sequels. Just different colored hallways.

I agree with all the posts here. Yes i love that too OP and believe me or not that was one of the things that really made me fall in love for the saga the first time i played ME1 back in the days.

This should really return...in some way as well as the feeling of mystery and adventure of the uncharted planets....together with the music it created an athmosphere that i really miss and cannot find anywhere in the other ME games...

Holy ****, yes. There should have been more stuff like that scattered around rather than the generic "scan this ruin/crash site/anomaly for stuff".

Remember that mission against the Rachni? Where you could plug the Mako into the generator to operate the auto-turrets, or drive it around yourself shooting down the enemy? I would be interested to see that as a new MP mode. Ten key locations across an entire world, one for each wave, defending a base as per the SP mission against Rachni. Kind of like a King of the Hill match.

The only thing really wrong with Uncharted World missions where the abused and reused assets (generic bunkers & buildings), lack of vegetation, and the horrible Mako handling and combat.

Honestly, more creative aesthetic design and something the a beefed up Hammerhead would've been fine.

I liked the uncharted worlds and explored all of them.
Way better than the scanning in ME2 and 3

The aspect of Mass Effect I miss the most, when I heard me2 was in the terminus systems I couldn't wait to see the new worlds and have good old wonder around but no this was traded for linear shooting gallery's nothing is better in me1 stand on top of a mountain looking the sky of an uncharted planet or finding an Easter-egg on one of the planet like the dinosaur skull.

Yeah I agree with the OP. The sense of isolation and the eerie feeling that you were the only person on a giant planet was fantastic. I wouldn't mind the Firebase method in ME3 if only they were more frequent and lots more of them. That way you could get into a kind of rhythm and explore stuff in between each encounter. But yeah, ME did encapsulate the sense of awe and despair when exploring something new quite nicely. Back when BioWare wasn't complete ****, huh guys...

Other then maybe two or three planets I found most of the planets repetitive, and way too small to feel like a real planet.

I liked the planetary exploration, but a lot of it was tedius. Many of the worlds were not well designed and navigation was frustrating. Still, on the well designed worlds it was awesome, and one of my most memorable gaming experiences. I wouldn't mind a little of it blended into ME2 and ME3. The use of the Hammerhead for travel and exploration helps to keep Overlord my favorite piece of DLC for ME2.

I was hoping ME3 would be a mixture of ME1's exploration with the level of detail in ME2's Overlord - Posted Image

That would of been brilliant, especially if they did their "underwater" level they had a concept back in the ME3 artbook. Would of reminded me of The Abyss.

Has anyone ever taken a screenshot of the dragon's teeth on Rayingri with the sun in the background?

It makes for an interesting and somewhat forbidding shot.

The view of the earth from  the Moon in ME 1 always reminds me of the Earthrise shot from Apollo 8 B)
