Yes ME1 was fantastic. ME2 not so much. ME3 just as bad if not worse than ME2

I always enjoyed being able to roam around and look out at the world around. Some of them were rather great to look at.

basically the planets in me1 helped show the vastness of the galaxy the scale of it. Me2 and 3 only told you that. In a visual interactive medium you show not tell. If you want to tell something show it

It wasn't perfectly done but infinitely better than scanning in ME2 and 3. In 3 it's completely redundant, there's no real incentive for scanning anything because you just get some stupid messages and that's it.

And god the landscapes were beautiful!

I agree 100% with the op. I often stood there just taking in the skies and moons. Reading about the planet in the Codex and realizing that I'm walking on calcium deposits, or tin or whatever the planet crust is made of.

A deep sense of isolation that is unique to ME1.

I loved landing on the planets and exploring. Whether we do it with the Mako or the Hammerhead, doesn't matter. (I would prefer the Mako) Overlord and Firewalker sort of added this to ME2, but it wasn't the same.
I just want to be able to do it again in ME3!

I remember a world you could land on that had binary stars.
Possibly more beautiful than most of the scenery in real life IMO.

I loved the scenery of the dark red planet with twin suns in the dark sky and the lush green planet with a storm coming up at the horizon...

The Uncharted worlds had its memorable moments of both good and bad for me.

The Sky and Atmosphere textures were just beautiful and stunning, however the terrain got boring rather quickly, what I would have like to have seen was some variety in the environments rather than just a jagged terrain with a different ground texture.

Like for example would have like to have seen some form of water or vegetation on some worlds.

Hell do you know who I wish was in charge of putting together the uncharted worlds? Notch, the creator of Minecraft, whilst not necessarily the whole 4x4 block layout but rather his random world generator coding.

Aw, good times. I miss 'em :crying:

And for those who have problems fighting Thresher Maws. Have you ever tried fighting them on foot? I kid you not, it's a lot easier than with the Mako because they tend to stay in one place while Shep and Crew are out. Only hard part is getting out of the Mako fast enough

The Mako could dodge like a baws. I couldn't stomach watching the Mako in London in priority earth just sitting there taking hits. So gay.

This. Oh hell yes. This +5,0000,000! ME1 is my absolute favourite! I don't care that the combat wasn't as refined. It was a freaking RPG! Your choices mattered in ME1. You had more dialogue options. The lack of autodialogue was something I liked. Ah... those were the days.

That's why I miss Mako. Sometimes it was annoying but it really added a soul to the game.
A possibility to explore all those worlds was one of the most fascinating parts of ME1. I missed that in ME2 and ME3. Same as OP, I used to just stand there and watch, my Shep loved that too ;)

Heh, no doubt about that. However, it seems I have a lot of bad luck when fighting Thresher Maws with the Mako. Even while driving around, the Maws often come out of the ground directly where I'm at that split second  So at some point I simply decided to take on them on foot and it worked like a charm.

I still prefer ME1's combat system over the other two to be perfectly honest. The rest is taken for granted B)

I'm actually just doing a new playthrough right now- when I last played the game it was on an old crappy definition tv. The vistas look amazing on the new HD, it's like playing a different game. I think my favorite uncharted planet mission was when I randomly found out what the Consort's 'trinket' was for.

Also, anyone else climb out of the mako and take down the thresher maws with a sidearm? Now THAT was nerve-racking.

Edit:  I guess so!

Those explorations are what made ME so special to me. I know I will never explore another world, but standing around in ME1 in the spacesuit or driving around in the Mako and the only other sound being the wind of that world was...breathtaking. I really felt like being there, it felt like real.

This was as hard-sci fi as ME has ever gotten.
That's why I was also a bit disappointed of ME2 and ME3..that lack of feel of being in a real, breathing universe.

agreed. added real sci-fi depth to series / spaces to ponder the missions. would like to use more of the mako in future. I liked driving it. Would love to explore one of the planets with evidence of previous civilization on it.

That was one of the unique things about ME1 and one of the reasons it still gets loads of love. Just a pity most of the activity on those worlds was so vanilla and repetitive.

If they'd made a dozen more detailed worlds instead of 3.5 main worlds and 20-30 generics then the Mako may have survived to ME2...

The romantic idea of exploring mysterious unknown worlds is far more attractive than what actually happens when you land on one of those planets and just keep the "up" arrow pressed for 5 minutes to get to wherever you're going.

If they revamped it, cut down on the cookie cutter number of planets, and really made each planet worth exploring with some cool little easter egg on each, I'd be down for it. Just repeating ME 1? No. It was pretty for a while and then it got tiresome and boring. And the Mako itself in combat was pretty lousy. Hide behind rock. Inch out. Shoot. Go back behind rock. Geth charging. Crap, find a new rock. Thresher Maw. Drive in a circle. Stop shoot. Drive in anothe circle. Shoot. Bleh.
