A way that DA:O is closer to BG than to NWN 2? You mean, apart from the fact that NWN 2 was made by Obsidian, not Bioware, and therefore has a different writing style (like for instance writers who couldn't write a decent romance to save their lives) fromm both BG 2 and DA: O.

Personally, apart from the newer, 3D graphics and the presence of an actual toolset (which actually didn't mean much because BG2 has better mods than NWN 2 even without a toolset, imho, including your Xzar or Edwin romance, btw. They're simply harder to make.), and the fact that they're both cRPGsI see no real resemblance between NWN 2 and DA: O, from what we've seen of the latter.

It's a different IP, different gameplay mechanics, different developper, etc...

As for features present both in BG 2 and in DA: O, i'll just say I don't knw enough about the game yet to describe any with any degree of certainty.

I'd like to ask, however, why you feel comparisons must be drawn. Bioware did say it was a spiritual successor of BG, but they also said it was a spiritual successor of NWN and KotOR (basically of all the games they had made when they started development).

Can't we just let DA: O stand on its own, and judge it for what it is when it comes out? From what I've learned about it so far, it seems to be potentially great and I hope it will fulfill my expectations, but all we can do is wait for release and judge it then, imho.

I like to criticise and discuss stuff. Don't you think it's fun to compare things just for the sake of it? I also hate fanboyism, but thanks for the input.

I just fail to see how you can compare things when you know so little about one of them.

And ... fanboyism? Where did you get that impression, exactly? I said I was hopeful, that's all. Don't I have as much right to have hopes about a game, as you do to criticize it?

Indeed, you are allowed to hope, to criticise and to be a fanboy. As well as to hate fanboyism.

Haven't been looking into the game much (trying to avoid plot spoilers) but did see a video of combat somewhere and it reminded me somewhat of BG.

Okay...

I notice you still didn't answer my question as to what made you say i was a fanboy, but i'll just let it go at that.

We'll agree to disagree then :)

It's all good Brusin, I think if I could have summarized my entire post it would have been simply... there is SO much that we don't know. This is a thread to speculate in and so that is certainly your right to do, but... I personally hate to prejudge too much. I have prejudged games and not purchased them when I should have, and I have prejudged games and bought them and been disappointed. It's hard for me to straddle the fence between fanboy and pessimist. I don't think BG was perfect and NWN was complete junk, so I'm actually hoping for the best parts of both. :)

Note that development on DA:O was years before they begun starting on NWN2, therefore the two games were both "inspired" by the same source, but have taken two slightly different angles upon it.

Yes, they might remind you of being the same, but that's just because someone really likes to put on those rose-tinted glasses and try to recreate what was one of the biggest successes in PC gaming history.

Where we stand now, however, this is history. BG isn't as big as ME is, or even as big as JE was, I believe. BG2 might be, but that's a different subject.

DAO was advertised as spiritual sequel to BG because it was a different time, and while NWN2 wanted to do that too, they got a pretty big "no-no" for that. As it is, you may consider NWN2 the prototype of what would make DA:O.

seriosly BG2 was masterpiece, its game youre freely able choose what do and deside what you want play. nwn was more like try make endless easy adventures and that kicked it ass... my opinion is that when game have more story telling what it was on nwn, its way better :P and nwn voice acting wasnt something I would remember this day :P anyway I believe bioware is pretty good track with doa, and as others have stated we should wait game before all flame each other here.

when I looked doa videos, nwn wasnt even close my mind. :) more like bg with improved look and better group combat , and frankly comparing nwn doa sounds more like flaiming discussion here.

and test bg2, its truly one of its kind and shows how games should been made first place...
