That they're already established as having different accents is kind of a big deal.

Sure they have. And if you get good actors  that can do different accents it can  work.

You're paying most voice actors by the line.  Whether it's more people or not doesn't matter.  Ad studio time is billed by the hour.

The point here is that more voice work is required, regardless of who does it.

You specifically mentioned accents though, and nothing about number of lines and payment for them.

Right, because the different accents precludes using the same voice files for all races.  Hence extra recording.  Hence added costs.

Zevran speaks like an Antivan and Anora's servant speaks like an Orlesian. So I don't think the accent has to be a major issue for elves.

As I'm sure you are aware, there are a few people who would like to play as different races in DA3. However, peple have also pointed out that this may make things difficult as you would need to hire 6 voice actors (Dwarf Female/Male, Elf Male/Female, Human Male/Female) just for the main character. But what if Bioware made a compromise.

If Bioware were to go down the route of- you can play as an Elven Male/Female or a Human Male/Female and each has a different voice, would you be okay with this compromise? After all, only a very small percentage of people played as dwarfs in Origins...

I'd be perfectly alright with this.

I never play Dwarf characters in any game anyways (though they're always in the team - *brofists Khelgar Ironfist*).

I have a problem with your suggestion.  I don't want to play a dwarf and will probably never do so, however I don't particularly like the idea of asking for the removal of options since options are good.

Here is how I see things working:
  • The community should be responsible for requesting all sorts of exciting and interesting features (horses, multiple playable races with separate accents for every region in Thedas, making all NPCs and inanimate objects romanceable, etc, etc)
  • Bioware should be responsible for making carefully considered and rational decisions about which of these features they want to (can afford to) implement, and for explaining how not implementing features the community wants makes the game EVEN MORE AWESOME.
  • And then the community is responsible for complaining about the missing features (and how the game has ruined their lives, slept with their spouses and killed their pets).

Personally, I think they could get away with one voice actor per gender even using all 3 races.  They've already established that there are people of all 3 of the previously playable races who speak with the American Midwestern Blandsville accent, and there are elves with deep voices and dwarves with high voices.

But, that being said, I'm not totally averse to being stuck without race options.  They're nice to have but not a deal-breaker.

Gender options, now . . . that'd be a deal-breaker for me on Dragon Age anyway.  There are VERY, VERY few games where I'm willing to play a male character.  Actually, I think there have pretty much been TWO: Gothic and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

I am weird like that.

I do not see Bioware bringing back race options. Not enough people chose non humans in orgins. I personally LOVE race options but it does not seem likey. I think they can compromise by giving us a variety of racial companions. I think Origins and DA 2 had too many human companions.

The logical: Only two voice actors are needed for all three races. Only the Dalish have restrictive accents.

The emotional: Dwarves are my favorite part of the game.  Posted Image

Who says you'd have to hire 6 different voice actors? City elves and humans speak with the same accent, and you could easily create a dwarf who was raised on the surface and so speaks like everyone else.

No, it would not be okay, considering I have little interest in playing as a human or a Furby Gremlin elf.

Yeah it would. I could never get past Ostagar with a dwarf.

They went with Swtor classes having the same voice, regardless of which species one picked, so I'd be surprised if the same didn't happen for DA3.

Assuming we're allowed to break free and not have to follow another Hawke around her/his story again.
