"Humans do not choose to fear us, it is simply the darkness in their own hearts."

Could you guys imagine something like that, having a darkspawn teamate lol.

They are not the Horde from WoW.

They are mindless evil. much like Activision.

They dont come as individuals, they have collective mind. Something like Borg.

Don't say that, next you'll have the OP suggesting that we have a '7 of 9' style darkspawn <_<

Which no doubt then Skelli would want to slap/kill :P

No, please don't have a Darkspawn teammate; that would probably be the number one way to ruin the atmosphere.

Absolutely not! How hard is it to understand the fact that the darkspawn are not individuals? They are soulless husks controlled by an ancient god that is tainted and corrupted by pure evil. There is nothing they want but complete destruction of all life.

No way! that would be a huge improvement over Morrigan.

Darkspawn are soulless instinctual creatures, their sole purpose is basically crush / kill / destroy everything. They even kill each other when there is no arch demon. They only have "goals" and "direction" when an arch demon is loose upon the world.

Darkspawn ally would make no sense and would be somewhat stupid and silly imo.

But ofc you never know, obviously if you did get this companion he would have a shield and belt buckle weilding the EA logo. Seeing as EA are basically a gaming blight.

Actually some darkspawn behave as individuals but those are only rare cases and only in between Blights, when the hive mind has little to no direction but to dig down to another dragon god.

I was speaking about the majority, not the odd 0.00001% of them. But even so every single one of them are soulless which means in these games most of the time, they have no care / love etc and definately no loyalties.

No.

That would mean that DAO2 would have to have some sort of blight story-line to it. I think it would be best if they created a whole new story line around a whole new continent/area. I don't want to be fighting darkspawn again in DAO2.

That's the thing though. DAO 2 will take place in a Blight-less age. We could very well get a dawkspawn campaign who's main goal is to find dragons to possess. It is highly likely the next game will have some sort of Architect type character.

Thrall the darkspawn who is enslaved by the humans then he escapes and sets off to free his people from the taint and lead them to a promised land...

No, just no.

Well, considering the only heckful darkspawn we ever hear talk is the Hurlock emissary from Dragon Age Journeys, it would be a HUGE improvement if we had speaking darkspawn at all.

But it's time to move on, and if DA2 will focus on a blight, I will be VERY disappointed.

I'll pass on the whole Darkspawn with a heart thing.

Archetype or Architect?

Can we not have any Darkspawn, except perhaps in the Deep Roads, in DAO2? They're the least inspired part of the setting - generic mindless evil, demon-enslaved zombies. No interesting villains with deep character flaws but also redeeming qualities, no trying to figure out the plan or motive of the enemy, just an excuse to have a sudden horde of bad guys ripe for the killing swarming over the land. As a first game it worked well enough, as the main plot was simple yet urgent and the main fun of the story was being introduced to all the setting and backstory. Now that we have a taste and want a closer look, I certainly hope the next game is more about human(/elf/dwarf) struggles for power in the post-Blight era. My ending, at least, contained plenty of interesting tidbits about the intrigues and conflicts yet to come, and various parts of the plot point strongly to the fact that even the tenuous 'alliance' the so-called forces of civilization entered into the beat back the Blight was gone as soon as the Archdemon was. My personal hope: a strengthened Fereldan invades Orlais, and the game takes place primarily in Orlais. Even better would be if the next game is HUGE and includes all or most of the major empires we've heard about. Traveling through the Tevinter Imperium could be pretty sweet.

I hate this idea as much as the demand for a geth teamate at ME 2.

I really dislike this bs that "Legion" or what ever he is called is a party member at ME 2. It didn't fit into the regular geth-scheme and it doesn't  fit for darkspawn to join humans. Both terrible ideas... only worse "ideas" is to join the reapers or the blight, so that you can play "evil"....-_-

It was pretty much confirmed in the book "The Calling" that darkspawn are mindless beings with a hive like mentality. Very much like the Borg. The exception of course being The Architect, who was a villain anyway

Perhaps if it was a Darkspawn who rebels against his kin, and has some distinguishing feature -- maybe purple eyes, or something. And he could be ranger, who can summon some sort of animal companion, like a large feline, and of course he would be a dual-wielder. His entire story would revolve around trying to be accepted by the rest of society, while at the same time the old "fish out of water" hiliarity lightens the mood.

Wait, wait, no, that's a horrible idea. Never mind ;)

But, IMO, so is the original idea of this thread. I would not want to see a friendly Darkspawn.

I respect your opinion, but I see nothing wrong with a geth companion in ME 2. I mean, unlike the darkspawn, geths are machines that can be altered, reprogrammed, if you will. Makes perfect sense. Although, maybe it's the back story of that particular geth that might pose a problem. I can't say I know much about this Legion fellow. Otherwise, I find nothing wrong with it.

I hope the Qunari are the villains in the sequel. Time for another Exalted March!
