Steam is running a 50% off weekend deal on "Torchlight". Originally priced at 19.99 for a few more days you can get it for 9.99. I bought it a week ago and been loving it, between this and "Dragon Age" Ive been busy.

Great game. Worth 49.99 if you ask me. Image IPB

It's a pretty good game. I really like two of the three classes, since I'm a ig believer in ranged combat. Big levels, good creature placement, lotsa loot, good challenge (playing on a difficulty appropriate for veteran players), frequent boss-type monsters, no gimmick fights so far, and a pet that's actually useful as more than just a combatant.

I do not use Steam either. I'm not a fan of Games for Windows Live or Impulse for the same reasons. I do put up with the former though. Grudgingly.

Steam is the reason I never played Portal. I came within an inch of buying a stand alone copy until I found out it required Steam.

looks kind of average to me, sacred 2 is a much better designed game

Sacred 2 falls flat when compared to Torchlight... it just seems forced and unpolished in comparison to it. On the subject at hand, I enjoyed Torchlight very much, but there's ultimately not much to do in it besides embark on yet another episode of dungeon crawling (perhaps the MMO part will liven it up a little bit) and overall it seems like a "copycat" game that took the best from other games (Diablo series and FATE) and... well, that's it, it didn't really improve on it or anything, it just took those elements and used them.

But one thing that's really good is the pet. I mean, it'll be hard to play Diablo 3 if it doesn't come with a similar feature.

I find Tourchlight to be a superior experience to Titan's Quest or Diablo II. Can't wait for Diablo III to get here though.

Have you played Sacred 2?  Boss monsters don't even drop loot.  That is epic fail for a hack 'n slash dungeon crawler.

I avoided getting it for ages. But had to have it with the installation of Empire:Total War. :(

Same, hehe. I thought it was a website that people bought and downloaded games from or something.

Probably, with the people at The Creative Assembly and Infinity Ward making it mandatory for their games it must be installed on a lot of PCs by now (and for Valve games too, but it's their system so they're allowed to annoy their customer base if they want).

Really, when it was just for HL2/CS and it's mods it was fine but it's showing the strain now and I hope valve are planning to fix it's shortcomings (and their operational problems) pretty soon.

I'm addicted to Torchlight thanks to you guys :P

I'd never heard of it before hanging out here!

And NO steam on my puter, I've had things go very wrong with it before!

I went ahead and paid 20 bucks for torchlight rather than save 10 and have to install steam!

It's a great game, but I really haven't touched it since finishing it. It really really needs multi-player. I played through as an Alch, and it was a lot of fun. I got to around 20 or so on my Vanq, but just got bored after a while. If they ever put in multi-player, I would play it all the time.

how does it fall flat? its not unpolished at all, its constantly patched and has a tonne of quests and huge map to explore. the creatures and skills are well made as well as item slots ect ect. I also agree with the copy cat diablo theory, however this game is better than torchlight in comparison to each other by the looks of it.

as for boss treasure, i agree to an extent that boss treasure is important but i have seen chests and loot available for many other smaller bosses and dragons ect in the game. Treasure is important yes but it doesnt make the game.

Play the zork series if you want a real rpg anyway :)

I don't want to sound like a troll or anything but did anyone else noticed the huge similiarities between Tocrhlight and D1 & 2. The music, sound effects, narrator voice, three classes(ranged, melee and caster), multi leveled dungeon, scrolls for identification and town portal, one town and the list goes on.

It was made by former Blizzard employees, was it not?

As far as multiplayer is concerned, they're apparently making a F2P MMO based on the Torchlight setting.

Of course, I speak only for myself so don't mistake me for a representative of all gamers, but for me Sacred 2 lacks personality and charm even when compared to it's predecessor (which was an above average game, btw)... it just seems like an utterly generic title with no style of it's own (Torchlight may have stolen  charm and style, but it still has them at least). And Sacred 2's mechanics and layout just feel unpolished to me, even when compared with previously released games like Titan Quest - character controls are too stiff and unprecise, UI is cumbersome for the most part and other less important issues. And no, loot kinda DOES make a hack and slash RPGs like Sacred and Diablo, it's the nature of the beast.

But then again, that's just me. ^_^

Just as a bit of an aside...

Does anyone think we will EVER see Diablo III?

I was just reading yesterday that Blizzard has said it will not be released in 2010. HUH??? How can it possibly take 10 years to make a sequel to one of their most successful games?

All of their attention is focused on the WOW cash cow.

D3 has been delayed to the point that no one really cares anymore.
