On my first playthrough of Mass Effect, when the game finished it brought me back to the Normandy and Autosaved, thus importing my character to ME2 worked fine. This time the credits rolled and went back to main menu, when i click on resume game it brings me back to the citidel to fight saren again, so when i try and import my character, its not there becasue the game techically isnt completed. Ive scaned the save files in config but that only brings up my other Shepard. Any help?

Ty.

It's not done via Resume. I think that just goes back to whatever the game has as the last autosave, and unlike the sequels there's no NG+ to carry on after the final boss and do anything you missed. What you need to do to play the game all over again with the same character, albeit levelled up and equipped with many and shinier guns skills, is choose 'Start New Career' in the main menu. Then click the 'Connect To Database' button as normal, and then at the Profile Reconstruction screen choose 'Select Existing ID'. You'll be presented with a list of all ME1 completed game saves, which are a different file from saves you make during the game and if you've replayed the final battle with the Saren Husk a few times there may be a number of duplicate careers. You should be able to identify the one you want easily enough by name and level when finishing the game, but in case you play everyone as John/Jane on the right hand side of the screen you'll see other details such as the class, background and date you created the character. That'll also help you identify duplicate careers for later deletion if you feel the need to tidy up.

Are the career save files for this playthrough showing up in Windows Explorer? They should be in C:/[username]/Documents/BioWare/Mass Effect/Save and be in the format "Char_1-52-2-1-0-30-7-2012-39-54.MassEffectSave" You can see that part of that is the date on which the career save is created, i.e. when you killed Saren. If you don't have files for dates on which you know you beat the Saren husk then you've got some other kind of problem. If the career saves are there but just won't show up in the menu I'm not sure how to proceed. If it was me I'd back up the whole BioWare folder before I do anything else and then try importing from the backup or even reinstalling the game, but maybe a call into EA support first might be in order.

I have this problem as well. It sucks! The game doesn't want to "complete".

As I said to Spitfire_uk, are the career saves, the ones named something like Char_x-xx-x-x-x-dd-mm-yyyy-xx.MassEffectSave showing up in the C:/[username]/Documents/BioWare/Mass Effect/Save folder? The game is supposed to create one each and every time you beat the Saren husk, which you can do multiple times for the same character using Resume.

Bear in mind that there is no carrying on to finish up any side missions or just buzz round the galaxy after that point in ME1. You beat Saren, look heroic, hear Council speeches, choose human Councillor, look heroic again and then credits, the end. That you can't carry on the game doesn't mean it hasn't completed, it just means that BioWare didn't put that in the first game like they did with ME2. Wish they had as I did forget a couple of quests on my last playthrough and didn't realise it until something I expected in ME2 didn't happen.
