Thanks, but I have discovered through trial and error and research here that Shadow Broker is a real game breaker on the PC. So I uninstalled it and now it's fine.

Oh. Not played it without SB installed so I was in the dark about what bug you meant. I'm aware of one SB induced one (the Thane and Samara recruitment one) and one that seems to be present whether SB is installed or not (Conrad Verner). Out of interest where else on Ilium were you having problems?

No problems now. A lot of searching on this forum shows it's a known bug on Illium only with SB installed. Since I uninstalled it there hasn't been any problems.
The problem is the hallway under Liara's office. It goes to a black screen in the same exact spot 99% of the time. And that other 1% it will go black when I EXIT that hallway and turn right, again, at the same exact spot.
I plan on finishing the game then trying to install and play it if I can that is.
I got Thane and Samara sans problems.

Hadn't heard of that one. I'd be annoyed as hell by it but luckily it's never happened to me. Maybe it's certain systems or certain other things in the game that must happen to cause it. Or maybe I've just been lucky and never run over the right spot.

Well, it's probably because you said you never installed Shadow Broker. It seems to be a game breaker and is a known issue but was never fixed so there's a waste of my cash. Figures.
