Umm, creating a "love" thread doesn't cancel out the fact that there are a bunch of active "Alistair sucks" threads, all with pretty much the same content.  And I honestly don't wish to spam the forum with another meaningless thread, even if it were on my "side".

I'm supposed to contribute meaning?  *lip tremble*

Do...do I have to leave now?

I am pretty sure I can't promise that...

Alistair is a confusion to me...he cant be trusted for thing and lacks any real standards until the Landsmeet.

Case in point;
*Circle Tower if you go against Wynne=Alistair "Im not going to fight an old lady!"...but he does.
*Sacred Ashes with Lelina in your party and you choose to blood them=he helps you kill a companion/friend you've known since Lothering[ld have rather killed him and made Lelina least leave, but no such option...least she fought for what she believed.]

Im sorry, but why the hell does anyone think he would make a good King?

Alistair doesn't like any of the companions in your group, except maybe dog.  I think he's afraid of Dog.  I had to love it, though, I had 100 approval with Morrigan, as a female character, so no romance, and he asked me how I felt about her, and I told him.  Not sure at what point in that conversation, but I lost 10 points of approval.  His little remark about Leliana being useful to me, when I said it was good for her to get out of the Chantry really irked me...Especially since we'd just gotten done with Marjolaine, and I'd just finished hardening her.

You know your right, and l dont think he ever asks about Wynne.

That evil bastard!

LOL, I didn't think you were serious.

You mentioned numerous times that he doesn't have one.  I thought your goal was to get one, but you couldn't start it yourself out of principle.  I'ts your job to keep it in a suitable forum local though.

Crud, now I have to think of something more substantial than "Alistair's voice is really cool and I don't care what anyone says, I like his hair!!!" to add to it.

If you repeated that it would probably be the deepest thing in there at this point.

Alistair does have good points, he is afterall a Paladin in outlook. But due to the story, he's forced to do things you'd not expect[see my 2 earlier points]...or having any backbone.
I just dont think hes a Grey Warden.

No, I can't do it. Whatever's left of the Alistair fan club will come over to my house with torches and pitchforks, and probably an Archdemon to make sure they get the job done.

Zevran is too short for my human PC. I am very short woman irl and imagining a guy shorter than me even on screen creeps me out.

The intention of this example was to illustrate Alistair's quite... confusing approval-mechanism.
You loose -10 approval with him if you say you didn't jump at the idea of joining the Grey Wardens.
And you loose only -3 approval with him if you are leaving the soldier to die.

Well, it's made pretty clear throughout the whole game he's got certain view about the Grey Wardens, and this concept of them is something he treats the most dearly. The example also doesn't mention the context of these dialogues -- that is, if i remember right the part where you tell him you still don't want to be Grey Warden happens when it's down to just the two of you, which basically boils down to telling him "i wish i'd leave you all alone to put up with this whole Blight business". So... yeah, he really doesn't appreciate hearing that. Where is the confusing part here?

Which is why you made me use it. Image IPB Psh, Zevran isn't THAT short, at most he's a couple inches. This is compensated else where.

Loghain rules because he is an amoral psychopath, and your character ought to be psychic and just KNOW that he won't betray you after undertaking the Joining. Right, okay.

I'm really tired of trying to be logical or use common sense to explain why he's not the worst person EVER for not loving Loghain like everyone else does for no apparent reason. Have at it with the Alistair bashing.

Very very few people are actually defending Loghain in the sense you mean (ie saying he's a good guy).   Rather more people are arguing that certain accusations against him are false or stating that its not metagaming to consider him a legitimate ally against the darkspawn.

People like Alistair and Ser Jory, who think joining the Gray Wardens is a reward, are going to be mad about recruiting Loghain.   People who think the Gray Wardens are little more than the "Dirty Dozen" or any other suicide squad/forlorn hope do not think using Loghain to help defeat the Blight is some sort of reward.

There is an enormous difference between  "Loghain is a great guy" and "Loghain has to be stopped, but execution is not the only or even best way for him to pay for his crimes."

As for Alistair, I'm not required to have any sympathy for a guy who quits fighting the Darkspawn.  Not just quits the party, but quits everything.  Yeah, there are reasons why he's ultimately a coward, but so what?  He's still a weak minded coward.

Personally, I would have liked a "lock Loghain up until we defeat the Blight, so we can rub it in that we were right and he was wrong" option, but that wasn't present.  But like I said, I would not trust a leader who decided to team up with our worst enemy.  That's my point of view, so I could see why Alistair did what he did.  I don't like it, particularly, and wish that you could talk him into coming back afterwards, but it is what it is.  I don't think it's weak minded to say "oh crud, everyone around me has gone insane, I'm outta here" if that's what you really believe.

Romance scene between Zev and female dwarf is the best anyway . . .

Well, that kind of stuff happens all the time in real life.   Loghain has a large power base.  I want that power base on my side.  In the real world, chopping Loghain's head off would not magically transfer the loyalty of all his men to me, especially if I also lock up Anora.

I happen to believe that Loghain can be trusted to fight the Archdemon and that helping fix the mess he made is a better punishment than just dying.

Moreover, if you're at the point where you feel personally insulted because someone dislikes your favourite CRPG character, it's possibly time to back away and take a breather.

Lmao the only character I like is the one I make.  When my other companions make a comment about something they dislike that I'm doing I wish I had the option to say to them all like you do with Sten, "I'm not here to impress you."  That would shut them all up whether it be positive or negative influence but at least you're letting them know, "I'm the one in charge, I'm the one thats having to make these decisions.  If you don't like it go get a cup of shut the **** up n deal with it."

I didn't kiss Alistair's rear and I did things that were of questionable morality at times, but I felt were necessary to save Ferelden from the Blight. I had integrity and was honest with Alistair even when I wasn't happy.

I never did anything outright explicitly evil.

By the end of the game I was neg approval with Alistair. Ugh.

Hmm by the end of the game my elf was at +35-40 with Alistair. And she was actively trying to shirk from being a Grey Warden, left Redcliffe to burn and killed Arl's kid because she thought there's no better way. She also skipped most of the optional side-quests and didn't bother with gifts (short of the obvious necklace and the shield thing) nor was trying any romance with him. Ok, they had a talk about licking lamp posts once.

Maybe it's because she wasn't actively trying to act like an ass towards him, no idea.

My mage hated his guts.  First meeting a templar after getting screwed over by a templar, a first enchanter and then my bestest buddy Jowan did not leave me in a trusting mood.  Getting the "darkspawn or death" (not even cake as a choice!)  treatment by Duncan just made me angrier, and by the time Alistair and I had any conversation at all, I was infuriated by everything he said and avoided talking to him because he's picking on a mage and can't tell I'm a mage even though I'm carrying a...big staff.  Dufus.

Eventually decided once she found out he'd be king that she'd make him King and he hated her for it.  Fine.  We're even.

And even then, I'd pick the most neutral of choices and suddenly I'm in a romance.  NO!  No rose.  NO!  Stop.  No.  I'm using you, ******.  Wise up.  Jeeez.
