 Kaiden, Jacob and james. I hate them all, i don't know why, they just seem so generic or in the case of jacob to optimistic and a kiss ass.
The girls aren't much better but least tehre slightly more intresting, save for ashley who i dislike due to here hate against aliens, that jerk. 

Anyone else feel the same way?

Nope, they're all bros. Kaidan and James are some of my favorite characters, and I don't hate Jacob, just don't like him as much as the others.

Kaidan and James are my bros. Jacob was....Meh until ME3 where he became a cheating a-hole. I shall only begrudgingly talk to you because its what my Shepard would do, not me.

I like Kaidan and James. I'm almost finished with a playthrough using James.

I don't hate Jacob, but there are far better characters than him.

I like Kaiden. James is alright. I really wish they did more with the mentor/pupil thing they had going with Shepard and him. Jacob...I hate cheaters.

Well it wouldn't be cheating in my playthrough, i didn't give a vorchas ass about jacob so i was never in a realtionship with him. Nor would i want to be. 

I disliked him for him being a kiss ass, if shep was being renegade towards him, he'd find someway to justify it. 
James and kaiden i dislike for them being generic, although thats a little harsh because i did at some points take an intrest in them.

Really? I found him to be annoying due to him agreeing with shepard with almost everything good or bad. But everone is entitled to there opininon

Could you tell me about him being more stand offish ?

He rarely seemed to be in the mood to talk to me at all ("I'm not big on forcing these talks, Commander") and whenever I actually tried to get him to talk about himself he'd shut me down.

Sometimes you need the stable, uncomplicated soldier. I don't like aspects of their characters, but Kaidan, Jacob, and James are all pretty cool if you ask me.

As for starting female characters...

Ashley; Don't know what it is, she just rubs me completely the wrong way. Maybe because she's a sickeningly blind pro-alliance nut, a semi-speciesist, a closed minded conservative twit who calls you a traitor to everything you fight for just because you aren't fighting on the same team as her, after being dead for two years you try to re-establish a connection with her and she decries you as a person, then gets all jealous when I move on to the much more open-minded, attractive, and determined Miranda. And she's still not half as bad as the Blue pet.

Miranda; She is probably my favorite squadmate overall from the games, and one of my favorite fictional characters ever. Yes there is a lot to do with the romance, but her character is just so well done in ME2 with so much chance for her to have positive growth in ME3. Except she gets shut down entirely in ME3 simply because she detracts from the blue pet.

The Blue Pet; Psycho, stalker, obsessed with Shepard, even though he shuts her down in the first game, constantly invades his personal space and private quarters, and has an annoying whiny girl, naive attitude to the war in general.

Jacob: Damn it. Shepard's been real creepy. Particularly when she says "I'm more interested in talking for a bit" in that sultry voice. At first I found it sexy, but now it's getting a bit much.

Bryn: What's wrong Jacob? Isn't she worth the priiiize?

Jacob: Something like that. Say, how about we talk about something else. I know this really nice place we can go to.

So one thing led to another... annnnd.

Bryn: Can we call our baby Shepard?
Jacob: Oh hell no!

Kaidan is one of my favorite characters. I even like James somewhat. Jacob is completely meh.

Kaidan and James are both pretty great. Jacob is a solid enough character in theory, but the writers gave him a lot of bad lines (which the VO did an admirable job of trying to salvage) and I find him hard to take seriously.
