Unless you're the child? (She may have only THOUGHT it was a boy and not given a chance to hold it. But then... if you're an elf.... so, nah, not the PC.)

What if it's... *gasp* Cullen? o.o

well I had a humen mage and it was kinda the first char that I had where she was in his company and she did seem very motherly to him but could have been me

Yeah, I didn't come to that conclusion, either. She was saying she might've wanted a son like him, I thought.

Although it's rather naive to assume she'd have to be married to have a child. After all, that's kinda how he came into being, isn't it?

There is a conversation she has with Alistair after this first one about a son in which she goes into more detail.  She actually tells Alistair that she had a baby at the mages tower and the baby was taken away to be raised by the chantry.  I haven't run into the conversation yet on the pc (though I have on the PS3) or I would post the actual dialogue.  But she does actually admit to having a baby (though not at 10 years old like someone else posted). Though as far as I know the main character can't ever ask her about her son even though you've just overheard her and Alistair talking about it. Posted Image

Here you go.  Edit: Wrong one. Here's the right one.

  • Alistair: So you... mentioned you had a son? What happened to him?
  • Wynne: I honestly don't know, Alistair. He was... taken
from me. Such births are seldom, as there are ways to prevent it, but
it does happen. And any child born to a Circle mage belongs to the
    Chantry.
  • Alistair: I... didn't know. I'm sorry.
  • Wynne: It's all right. It was a long time ago. A very long time ago.
  • Alistair: Couldn't you do something about it?
  • Wynne: Do what? I was weak from the birthing process and there were... no, there was nothing I could do.
  • Alistair: Do you think about him?
  • Wynne: All the time.

[*]kinda makes me veel bad about hur saying she was evil

I know me too.  I found her very preachy the first time I played, but after I heard that her son had been taken away from her, I felt really bad.  I actually thought there would be a side quest to go out and find him, but I guess not.  Maybe in a later dlc.

[*]well as I said she was kinda weerd to wards my humen mage but then again could just as wel have been for that where both fromt eh magi tower and that I had a goot reltion ship with hur at that point

Oh wow, that would make a really cool twist, wouldn't it? I would love to see that in a dlc later if you're playing a mage, even as an elf because she never mentions who the father was, so he could've been an elf (although in my twisted little mind I was thinking the First Enchanter Posted Image) .

Or even if she turned out to be Alistair's real mother instead of that house servant.  That would be so funny!  (But I think I remember reading that Alistair's real mother was supposed to be a Gray Warden - supposed to be in the second book, but I've not read it yet, so maybe someone else knows for sure.

Actually, I played with him both ways.  Unhardened, I got a lot of conversations about how he didn't want to do it, pretty please with sugar on top don't make me.  Hardened, I got one conversation: it's my responsibility, Anora sucks, gimme that crown.

Yeah, but that's at the Landmeet surely?

What I'm talking about is if you harden him while your still heading between Redcliffe/Circle Tower/Dalish and Orzammar as there is no difference (certainly none that I've seen with the exception of Isabella at the Pearl) between hard Alistair and flaccid Alistair.

You're right about there being essentially no difference BEFORE the Landsmeet, but your original post *did* mention the Landsmeet, where there is indeed different dialogue.  Posted Image

I'll completely admit that it's a fault of the game that we didn't see more of a difference between hardened/unhardened Alistair, and the fact that ONE response in one dialogue would change him was kind of...odd.

And as for his relationship with Cailan, I believe that Alistair's deepest desire, and his motivation through out the game, was to be part of a family, so even if he didn't admit it out loud, he did care when Cailan died.

One difference I can think off straight off.  When you ask Alistair after he falls in love where you think you're going.  If you tell him all that matters if you care about each other, harden Alistair agrees and says he doesn't intend to do anything to jepardize it.  Flaccid Alistair gives a speech about duty and then Alistair disapproves -10.

Can't be your mom if you're an elf.  You'd look human. Elven features are overwritten by human DNA in Thedas.  Don't tell me how that doesn't make sense, I didn't make the world.

well not realy half elfs are depending on what dna is stronger elfen or humen if the out comes would be that the child would look like its father the elf it would take the for of the elf but would have the live time of a humen  so its posebol as the saying mostly gose is that elfs can only get rid of there imorality if men elfen ladys would mate with humen men that is what I pickt up

Human genes must be dominant then, kinda like brown eye gene dominates the blue eye gene. Biology is fancy stuff :D

Oh, now it makes since.  I was just thinking about that whole theory how Alistair's mom might have been an elven gray warden.  I was kind of wondering why then he would not look like an elf.  But if what you say is true then I understand.  The child would take the human traits only.  Got it.

Without devolving into a debate AGAIN about book versus game canon, there are hints in the novels that Goldanna was lied to to keep Alistair's real mother a secret. Goldanna's mother was going to be his wetnurse, and pretend to have fraternal twins, or something. But then she died in childbirth with her real son then Goldanna was told a story and sent off.

I know that's what it says in the game, but I had heard it says something different in the book.  Ahh, who knows.  Like I said I haven't read the second book yet.  I think I'm going out to buy the book so I will know for sure. Anyway somewhere in the forums a moderator actually posted a portion of the second book that is supposed to talk about that.  I'll see if I can find it real quick.

Aww, I'm jealous my mage didn't have a sibling (I guess Jowan's kind of like a brother though, a selfish, blood-mage brother but still).

I looked and I could not find the thread with the info on the second book, but I found this link instead.  If anyone is interested.  Scroll down to where it says "Alistair Family Relations". http://dragonage.wik...i/Talk:Alistair

I'm definately getting the second book for myself for Christmas. Posted Image
