If you are bypassing the DA Launcher, you will not get updates other than achievements. I noticed this when I was using the console, and then would sometimes use the original shortcut (which is to dalauncher.exe, as opposed to daorigins.exe).

In other news, Alistair is still awesome.

Oh jeeze, really? I never use launchers for any game, ever. I'm too impatient. Well, I'll give this a shot too. Thanks for the tip. :)

Yep, that would be my problem then. Darn. I'll try using the launcher instead.

And yes Alistair is still (best Spanish accent I can muster) "ridiculously awesome" as Zev would say. Image IPB

Mine works and I bypass the launcher everytime.  I use Steam, so that's something to note.

It's also worth noting that I didn't get any updates for the majority of my first playthrough, as well.

Oooh, I wonder if I just screwed up my happy queen ending with Alistair for my new human noble playthrough. I became oh so bored with the whole warrior thing (actually I think I chose rogue), well anyway it isn't a mage and I do so love playing mages.  Actually, I should have played warrior or rogue first since I knew I would like mage too much to go back to anything else.  Anyway, so out of my boredom for silly daggers and swords, I used a cheat console command to make myself a mage.  I'm still at the Cousland estate right now, so it's still early in the game.  Do you think if I continue to play it this way, at the end of the game they will recognize me as a mage or human noble? I really do want to be queen this time.  Maybe I should just go back to my last save when Fergus is talking to his son about swords (I wonder about Fergus Image IPB).

Ok, good.  I just spoke to Cailan and he didn't recognize me as a mage, only a noble.  Perfect.  Just what I wanted to be - a human noble apostate Image IPB. Should make hooking up with a former  templar real interesting. Image IPB

I've been thinking about doing this.  Playing as a mage is soooooo fun, but being stuck with the Circle of Magi origin would be boring, despite having my own personal built in stalker.  I'm planning on doing City Elf SECRET Mage next, and since that origin already has the PC hiding their "martial prowess", it's not too unbelievable.  Hope it works, I want to see how the endgame differs for a city elf, without having to play a rogue or warrior yet again.

I used origins changing mod to put my mage on throne. It worked on long run and I got the ending I wanted; but I did notice the game being bit confused now and then. Some NPCs recognized me as mage, some talked about my Cousland family. It didnt affect any quests really.

He's whiny and annoying after Landsmeet but I've turned him into one hell of a tank and he's indispensable now. So I love my whiny tank.

Alistair is definitely the BEST tank in the game, and of course is so much cuter than Sten and Shale.  And he has shield bash! Image IPB

I can't fight without a tank. It's my husbands fault. We play Guild Wars together and he's the sword and board to my aeromancer/pyromancer. I got used to sniping from behind that shield wall. So, I had to take Alistair.

I was doomed.

I feel you. Final Fantasy 11 started my love with tanks... Paladins to be exact.

I don't know if it's going to work the whole game through or not, but it is interesting.  I've noticed that my noble apostate mage can wield weapons not just a staff this way.  I don't remember being able to use swords or bows as a mages circle mage before, not until I chose arcane warrior anyway. So it will be an interesting playthrough and different from my  mages origin mage.  I just hope I still can be queen at the end.

Exactly.  So while Alistair is fun to watch, I'd rather be behind my husband's shield wall (And hubby also usually plays a Paladin).

I actually like being tank. And I'm better at it than Ali! Of course, I'm playing rogue this time around, but for play throughs where I don't care as much about high cunning, I'm happy with being the one who controls the battle.  When I played mage, I did arcane warrior so I could be tank there as well.  Ali gets mad when I leave him at the gates, but you know . . .  We only need one tank.

I love you. I'm always magic/healers hybrids in MMOs. I just have this need to be protected by a big strong man and his shield.

love Alistair, but talk about awkward silence...I mean the whole time he's telling you about how sad he is about losing Duncan, how he wants to meet his sister, every other time you click on that guy he's got something to say until you get with him, then he mentions how by tomorrow it'll be all awkward silence and, surprise, it is! Suddenly he won't chat about anything, you try to chat with him and all you get is a whiny I'm not ready to talk about that... then you get ditched when you decide to make him king and then you can't even save him! You tell him that you don't want him to kill himself but he doesn't listen or allow you to make your own decision and goes off and kills himself...what a typical man!

Is your shield big enough? Has to be to stop all the magical attacks and the like.
