Make it N7 ranking based. 6,000 minimum to play Platinum.
You must be high. I have nearly every gold weapon unlocked and 90% of the classes unlocked. and I'm n7 670 because I don't keep redoing my character over and over.

If anyone could be in the olympics, anyone would. It takes skill, training, and preperation to succeed in anything you want to (successfully) do. How much enjoyment can an undergeared player possibly have when he rambos away from the team on platinum, dies, and gets head stomped within 3 seconds? How enjoyable is that for the rest of the team to make up for the loss of functionality a fourth player brings?
Having gone though this learning curve myself I rarely play Gold and have never even tried Platinum.
However, I don't see why someone like yourself (or the OP) who clearly believe they excel at this game (Elitist?) should suggest (or agree) that players like myself should be excluded.
Someone has already suggested that people such as yourself should play with friends - Seems like a perfect solution to me.
Eh, I think you're missing our argument. You will eventually play Gold and then Platinum and it'll happen naturally. Our problem is with people who are not doing a natural progression towards Platinum and are wasting their own and other people's time.

I don't play Platinum. Won't. Gold/Silver are plenty fine.

I think you are missing the point.- I choose not to play Platinum because its MY choice. My competence/suitabilty to play Platinum is currently not determined by others. Long may it remain that way.

I don't boot for anything other than level 14 or lower (after that most builds can have enough of their main skills). Haven't lost a Platinum yet aside from my first one where people wanted to try GEngineer swarming with shield turrets and we wound up without enough armor damage to take out the Banshee swarms on wave 9, plus getting cornered and all that fun stuff you learn not to do. They haven't all been easy, but I've walked away with the credits.

Play a few Platinum matches with people who dont have the requiste gear, run around the map ramboing, and refuse to use medi-gels and missiles. Then come back and share your experience.

It would not serve to illustrate your point. Having someone who has played the game for a long time be competent is not the same as a random who (admit it, there are not many very skilled players who start new toons just for lulz) probably has not played the game very much jumping into platinum.
I am not saying that could not occur, I am saying the likelihood of it is very rare.
Edit: I can and do regularly let players who have good gear play level one characters on gold. When I play platinum I play to win, not level someone else, gain them experience, or offer them instruction.

Well, first of all, it would serve to illustrate my point exactly. I said it could be done, and you said it could not. If it gets done, then it gets done. That it could be done is a fact.
Anyway, back on-topic, no measure they could realistically implement would ensure a terrible player doesn't play a random Platinum. Anybody can farm WGG and have a Claymore X. That doesn't mean they can wield it effectively.
All gated access would accomplish is keep out perfectly capable players who want to try Platinum but haven't met whatever entirely arbitrary requirement you could set.
And, just like you're not playing to carry anybody, randoms aren't playing to help you win, either. Nobody cares what you want, and they're perfectly within their rights as players who paid for the game to not care. Unless you paid their entry fee, your desires for what they do with their game time are irrelevant.
Make friends, play with them. Bioware has already provided the solution to your problem.

I already brought up the point about friends. I mostly play with my friends. But to assume that they're always on at the same time I am and vice versa is crazy.

Easiest solution, as I see it, would be to tie it to the Unwavering achievement.

Sounds like a personal problem, for which Bioware is not responsible.

So you have never had to boot anyone? You are in the minority I fear.

100% agree! Its not arbitrary and would solve the issue.

I'm down with that. I'm tired of all the dirty degenerates taking all my time for nothing. Morons that don't even use a single rocket to save the team. People who don't even use medigel when on wave 10. I know this is a **** community but wow. You morons astound me with your stupidity. So yeah, some kind of matchmaking system that only pairs people with a brain together to play Plat would be awesome. Never gonna happen though so I guess I'm stuck with idiots... Yay me.

It's just as meaningless as any other criteria, as I can certainly argue well that Gold MP is more difficult than SP Insanity, even though they are, strictly speaking, the same level enemies. Just because you've finished SP doesn't mean you're fit for Gold, much less Platinum.
