Disagree, there are no bad characters to use on gold, just characters you are bad with on gold. Not you personally, well maybe you personally, but anything is effective on gold with the right playstyle/teammates/experience.
This is extremely wrong. Some characters and weapons are distinctly weaker on gold. Enemies have 5 damage reduction on bronze, 30 damage reduction on silver, and 50 damage reduction on gold. So rapid fire weapons that do barely more than 50 per hit are going to do the minimum 5 damage per hit on gold. This is one of the huge reasons most SMGs are terrible.
Then you have the shield gate, which prevents damage from transfering to health this really negatively impacts sniper rifles (although it can still be worth having them around for the big stuff.)
Meanwhile Biotic explosions do a set percentage of an enemies health, this scales amazingly in gold.
Some stuff just plain sucks and other stuff stops being viable beyond silver.
It is worth noting that the Phaeston is right on that 50 dmg per shot barrier, stack some ammo powers, +assault rifle gear, and built in damage boosts on the thing and it can start doing damage. You can just do the same thing easier with the typhoon.
