Matsuhisa. On La Cienega in Los Angeles.
Omakase special.
mmmmm.
Also: home cooked feast on an island in Southern Thailand, at my aunt's mom's house. Included pen-raised lobsters, soft-shell crab, and fish curry.

But the absolute ultimate was a steak (I forget which one) from Little America in Wyoming (22 miles west of Green River) - so tender and flavorful, it was like eating a brownie made from cow!

Absolutely this. But also add two snack wraps (crispy, ranch dressing), and 6 piece McNuggets.

It's usually tough to beat good old beef though. Give me a Rib Eye any day of the week, and make sure it's rare. And don't trim the fat, or you will burn in hell.

I can never eat that much. You guys are beasts.

Best thing I've ever eaten? That's easy, the Brown Sugar Banana flapjack from Hash House a Go Go, inside the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
There is no way one human could eat that whole thing, but it's fun trying with a group of friends!
Yeah, it's as big as a large pizza. And smothered with win. They don't call it "Twisted Farm Food" for nothing.

It could be that the memories of the meal are actually better than the meal, but it was divine! It was essentially a multi-course, traditional Greek meal. They had traditional belly dancers come out during the evening and perform. If it was someone's birthday the wait staff did some Greek dance and the person got to throw wine glasses on the ground and smash them!
One of my earliest memories was John Papadakis hoisting me up into the air over his head with one hand (and I was a big 7 year old at the time!).

Both homecooked, which matters. A lot.
Edit: Went back, saw original post, decided to clarify: this isn't the tossup for the best meal I've eaten recently. This is the tossup for the literal meaning of the title.

I'll take that challenge.
Actually I should know better than to make that kind of a bet with Americans. Last time I went there, I was defeated by a stack of pancakes. In my own defense, it was a larger amount than shown in the picture.
Come to think of it, I'd go out to eat much more if I lived there. A decent-sized tip (which you can afford because the price of food is so low) and the service is usually really good. Here we don't have that system, and often the service is just awful.

Such a ridiculously wonderful find that place was. We actually went there twice in one trip, because we felt compelled to.
But alas, that's a tip-driven economy. You tip everybody, even the guy blowing the whistle to get you a cab.
