Sometime when there was not many customer and just 2 of us working, The cook would make ''special meal'' . Anyway .. At some point he made some pasta with alcohol and some kind  cheese  sauce.. It`s was ...

A few years ago, I was on a wilderness hike with a friend-dropped in by chopper and supposed to be picked up three days later by chopper at a pre-arranged location. Bad weather prevented the chopper from flying to us for three days. We ran out of food on the first day. Finally we were picked up and the pilot gave both of us an apple. It was the best damn thing I ever tasted.

Most recently, the all-you-can-eat steak and lobster buffet at Boomtown in Sparks, NV.

But the absolute ultimate was a steak (I forget which one) from Little America in Wyoming (22 miles west of Green River) - so tender and flavorful, it was like eating a brownie made from cow!

Absolutely this. But also add two snack wraps (crispy, ranch dressing), and 6 piece McNuggets.

First time I had pekin duck. It was roasted with I don't know what herbs or spices, but that was one greasy little heaven. Black bear is another fine morsel, but I've never had the pleasure of having the whole animal.

It's usually tough to beat good old beef though. Give me a Rib Eye any day of the week, and make sure it's rare. And don't trim the fat, or you will burn in hell.

OK, I'll bite.

Best thing I've ever eaten? That's easy, the Brown Sugar Banana flapjack from Hash House a Go Go, inside the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.

There is no way one human could eat that whole thing, but it's fun trying with a group of friends!

Yeah, it's as big as a large pizza. And smothered with win. They don't call it "Twisted Farm Food" for nothing.

There was a really expensive, authentic Greek restaurant down in California called Papadakis Taverna. I think it's closed as it's been 20 years since I was there. They would bring out appetizers like caviar, creme fresh and fresh baked bread . They would bring a big platter out and you could pick your cut of lamb for that evening. I remember it being so delicious.

It could be that the memories of the meal are actually better than the meal, but it was divine!  It was essentially a multi-course, traditional Greek meal.  They had traditional belly dancers come out during the evening and perform.  If it was someone's birthday the wait staff did some Greek dance and the person got to throw wine glasses on the ground and smash them!

One of my earliest memories was John Papadakis hoisting me up into the air over his head with one hand (and I was a big 7 year old at the time!).

I can't decide between Fettucini Al Fredo (had it twice) or Maryland Fried Chicken (had it once.)

Both homecooked, which matters. A lot.

Edit: Went back, saw original post, decided to clarify: this isn't the tossup for the best meal I've eaten recently. This is the tossup for the literal meaning of the title.

I'll take that challenge.

Actually I should know better than to make that kind of a bet with Americans. Last time I went there, I was defeated by a stack of pancakes. In my own defense, it was a larger amount than shown in the picture.

Come to think of it, I'd go out to eat much more if I lived there. A decent-sized tip (which you can afford because the price of food is so low) and the service is usually really good. Here we don't have that system, and often the service is just awful.

^ Actually, Hash House a Go Go is super cheap, compared to most of the other dining options in Las Vegas, and considering how enormous the portions are (for literally everything on the menu), I'm surprised they're able to turn a profit.

Such a ridiculously wonderful find that place was. We actually went there twice in one trip, because we felt compelled to.

But alas, that's a tip-driven economy. You tip everybody, even the guy blowing the whistle to get you a cab. Image IPB
