General consensus of this thread:

ME1 did have flaws, but people were willing to overlook them because of the quality of the plot

People don't feel the same about ME3

People with opinions differing yours are trolls, noobs, idiots, etc.

Just stop doing that and it'll be fine.

But that is the only reasonable way to address them.
I'm starting a new trend here, I no longer consider them f**king morons dropped on their heads as babies.

I say you're objectively wrong because you say ME1 is inferior to ME2 and ME3. Which is incorrect.

And you also stated that fans of ME1 have “nostalgia googles" and are delusional. Which is also incorrect.

Also please tell me how am I being arrogant?

So you are saying I can't have a preference for the sequels?  Are you saying I am not allowed to like the sequels more than ME 1?  Are you trying to push your "ME 1 is better" on me?

Hell there's dozens more that I haven't played.

dozens that you haven't played? So you can't compare them genius......KoA? Ok......the Walking Dead? That's a joke right.....yeah, I guess you have your opinions.....sadly, the fact of the matter is that not one of the games you listed will be a Game of the Year candidate.....

I'm not comparing them. You stated that they're not made with same quality which is complete horse****.
And what's your point?

Are you so shallow that you judge the quality of a game if it gets GOTY?

op obviously wants to troll.
All the points mentioned can been argued upon, how is leaving out one or many aspects of a game an improvement?

For example side missions were not mandatory, and still better then fetch quests, and those who didnt like them didnt need to do them to achieve a better ending.
ME3 didnt improve as much as it left things out.

ME1 has established the ME franchise and made it popular, while ME3 almost managed to undo everything. That is and will stay the main difference, like it or not.

/edit: As for nostalgia, i played all 3 installments in a row twice! So the third part has all the flaws most people complain about and this makes it the worst of the trilogy.

Ever considered addressing them like human beings who have a different opinion than yours? So perhaps in turn they return the kindness to you? You make people less angry this way.

Legion did not take on several ravagers single handedly nor has he taken down a thresher maw on foot.  Both Wrex and Grunt have done that

no, because you called people who liked ME1 better delusionists on the bsn with nostalgia goggles

When they can't even appreciate 2/3 of the trilogy I wonder if they are truly ME fans though they claim to be the only true ME fans.  BTW I have been playing the series since the ME 1 days and yet I can still love the sequels as they make up the bulk of Mass Effect

maybe because they like the Mako, exploring other hub worlds, hacking( maybe), full control dialogue, and maybe they did like the combat and graphics better in 2 and 3

Possible fresh opinion.

On a recommendation of friend i bought both ME and ME2 cheaply about 6 weeks before ME3's release. I enjoyed them so much i eagerly awaited ME3, buying and playing it respectively upon its release.

So, i played all three games from scratch within the space of around just under 2 months.

I thought ME1 was the best. Rose tinted argument is invalid.

I just finished replaying ME1 and besides the lulzy graphics, when compared to the rest of the series, it still is the best in the series.

Did the exploration/side missions frustrate you? I find that's what annoys me the most about the game. I mean sure, it's nice to have but it's so tedious and repetitive.

Not really.  It definitely could have been better done but I acknowledge the fact that ME1 was also the first game in an IP made from, at the time, a not terribly big developer.  They at least bothered to change up the placement of items in the nearly identical bases so it was literally the exact same place over and over again like DA2.  The worlds themselves would have been better off with the more concise design of ME2 since for the most part, the UNC worlds were pretty empty and big.  But overall, I liked the pacing of the story much better than the other two and that is what gets the most points for me in an RPG.

Mass Effect 2 was all over the place with a whole lot of emphasis put on the loyalty missions and recruitments.  Such character driven style versus story driven style would have been okay except it really didn't work.  The characters ended up too shallow and with not enough interaction because there were too many.  I played femshep and I wanted to get to know Jack better.  Her character interaction and development is strictly tied to romancing her and she is straight.  There was no way for me to really interact with Jack so she just seemed like a boring angry ball of hate no matter what I did.  With Miranda it was more or less the same.  I get her whining about genetic tailoring (which you would think was something bad) and then she just goes back to being cold and filing mission reports.  I never had any reason to actually like those characters because they had little to no development.

In ME3, the story was just plain bad.  We are in the middle of a galactic invasion and war and the invaders aren't even the main enemies of the game.  Cerberus is shoehorned into being the big bad against all common sense.  We could have had more diversity in Reaper troops, using more races and instead we got stupidity like Cerberus trying to use a bomb on Tuchanka.  What does Cerberus have to gain from hurting the Krogan? (Answer: absolutely nothing.  If TIM's plan works nobody would be a threat to him).  Basically despite the improvements in combat and mission setup (I did really like having N7 missions that actually fit into the main story) the story was just too immersion breaking to be enjoyable.

Which just shows that the Krogan have more diversity and wider range of personalities.

ME1 is a very difficult game for me to talk about. I like the game on paper but I find it to be a very tedious game to play ( of course that's because I spend alot of time doing side missions, now that ME3 has come out I now know that there is no point to doing anything in ME1 and I might as well just stick to the storyline missions, which in turn will make ME1 a very short game with great pacing ).

Despite the fact that I think it a dull game I do cut ME1 alot of slack ( and as such I never really come out and trash it ) because I do know and appreciate that ME1 was the first game of it's kind and it was a very ambitious project for Bioware to undertake at the time, it is also one of the earlier games of this generation when alot of game developers were still coming to grips with the Unreal engine and with the hardware of the 360. It's only natural that some things some thing would work well and certain other thing would not in such am ambitions project. It's hard to build something from scratch especially when noone out there has ever undertook a project as ambitious as Bioware were doing in 2005 - 2007.

I am less kind to ME3 since I believe ( and have always believed ) that ME2 was a near perfect game and I don't understand how a game developer can get a formula right and then in one game and then get it completely wrong in it's sequel. Surely if you have a winning formula you stick to it.
