Image IPBImage IPBI'm replaying the game as a "lawful neutral" warrior who's a templar/champion - and I want to know if the Templar army is any good in the final battle.  I'm willing to take the big hit to Allistair's popularity by siding with the Templars in Broken Circle, as long as the Templar army is worth it in the end fight.

Any thoughts or suggestions? If the Templars suck, I'm just as inclined to save the mages and make sure Isolde and Conner both live.

Haven't played with Templars, but mages are, bar none, the best army for the final battle from my experience. As long as you protect them from melee, they'll tear the archdemon to shreds.

The Golems can solo everything but the arch demon, only because single target killing everything takes too long. If the templars come with aoe stuns like the mobs do they'll be fun to have around.

I haven't found any of the allies to be particularly useful (although the mages do a good job of drawing corruption blasts from the archdemon during the middle part of that fight), but Templars do have the nice advantage of having crossbows. Unlike most of the other allies you can recruit, they are potentially effective at range or in melee, as opposed to elves which are strictly ranged, or dwarves/knights/werewolves/golems which are strictly melee (except for the occasional Hurl).

Forget about the templars. Those 12 mages led by Irving will beat the hell out of the Archdemon, and they are surprisingly good at staying alive, too. I didn't lose anyone in that battle.

I found that the mages were better suited toward the Arch Demon.

I used the Redcliffe army. It took a little while for them to get there, but they took the heat off my party by fighting the darkspawn. About half of them survived. That way my party could concentrate on the archdemon.

I have found the Templars to be useful on the one playthrough where I've sided with them so far. As others have stated they are pretty decent both melee and ranged. So can be used throughout the battle, whereas other armies are really only good for either the start or finish or just the middle bit as others have stated already.

The templars won't cast fireballs on your party to kill that one darkspawn grunt.
