Stop me if you've heard this one. 

Theory: the purpose of the Old God baby was to provide the ultimate host for Flemmeth. She's tired of haveing to raise a child, grow old, usurp the body of said child, lather rinse repeate. Imagine what she could do in the body of a reborn God!

Even worse thought:

For those of you that did the "Dark Ritual," what if that was actually Flemmeth; either disguised as Morrigan, or inhabitting her body? Dear God, I hope that's not the case...I went through the mirror into the unknown for that woman...

I dunno; I haven't touched DA II yet, so maybe it's covered; but...thoughts?

Witch hunt and DA2 timelines don't exactly match for that scenario of yours. You meet Flemeth on two occasions in DA2.

The purpose of the DR seems to be to capture the essence of an Old God. The body it's in is just secondary.

Also, in Witch Hunt, Morrigan will tell you that the child was to be... a herald or a messenger, I forget which, and it's a boy. It's possible Flemeth isn't attached to her physical sex, but she's been pretty consistent with having daughters over the years, not daughters and sons. Would be odd to break the chain for a final host.

True, true. I forgot the boy part. It's been about a year or so since I played Witch Hunt. Still, Morrigan said that the ritual was why Flemeth sent her with the Warden. So there had to be some plan there.

well,i'd love to see the old god child who is now a grown up ( i mean its been some years and the child is probably already a grown up) as a companion or maybe a player character in the next Dragon Age games and/or future DLC/other campaign

Yeah, that'd be kinda nice to see the kid. Or well, grown-up now.
