Alright I'm not sure if threads like this have been already created, I guess so, but here I go with my little thoughts on the weapon STYLES we have. So this won't really be about "what weapon is best for which class" and I also won't really analyse the numbers but truly rather the "style" and conclusively will try to give some ideas what we still may need.
Alright lets start with
Heavy pistols: When it comes to Heavy pistols we have a pretty wide variety of weapons already.
slow fire heavy hitters (Carnifex, Paladin), High fire rate (N7 Eagle, Arc Pistol), explosive (scorpion, acolyte), "shotgun" (Talon) and sort of low weight support (Predator, Phalanx).
So what is left that we truly NEED? I'm not talking about what we'd like to see as well but truly what is it that would make a distinctive difference to any of the guns we have already.
When it comes to dealing heavy damage imo Carni, paladin, Talon and the scorpion are sufficient.
So I personally think that the idea of the acolyte is pretty great. Shield/barrier destroying pistol is a great idea. The way it was realised certainly isn't really great.
With that being said I think that a pistol with a heavy damage gain for shields and yet an even heavier damage loss against armor would add some new tactical possibilities, especilally since with the new ultralight material some pistols are great secondaries.
Another weapon I'd love to see is a "typical" Revolver. 6 shots, RICOCHET possibility (similiar to Falcon) and the opposite to the first idea. Very weak against shields, weak against health but with a pretty big power boost against armor. But mostly having a or a few ricochet guns would be quite nice.
A low damage instant stagger pistol could also work (Geth plasma pistol?)
Sniper guns: One-shot (Widow, Javelin, Kishock, Mantis), Semi-automatic (Viper, N-7, Black Widow) , high fire rate (Raptor, Indra, Incisor) , explosion (Krysae)
Alright so when it comes to the Heavy hitters I think that we have everything we need. All deal enough damage, Kishock is hardest to use and for now the biggest damage dealing sniper due to shieldgate bypass. However it has been already discussed countless times but it's important that at least the Javelin will ignore shield gate. IMO at least headshots from the Widow,/Mantis should have the same effect.
Semi automatic is more than enough. Black widow as the heavy damage dealer, Valiant as the middle ground with pretty high fire rate and the Viper with the biggest clip but lowest damage.
High fire rate are pretty much the worst but still we got all the different types. Indra as full auto, Raptor as high fire rate and Incisor as burst. All semi-auto types are there.
And we got the, IMO totally unnecessary, grenade launcher Sniper the Krysae.
So what is missing? When it comes to the types nothing really. A truly useful one shot rifle would be probably one of the things we need. A Javeling update could solve the problem though.
Also a shield destroying sniper would be nice. IMO the Incisor could and should get a nice little buff if fired against shields/Barriers. Just like in the pistol section we don't have a shield desttroying sniper yet.
One thing I'd like to see is maybe truly a useful 3 burst sniper rifle. Maybe even one without thermal clips but a cooldown. A gun that shoots 3 bursts of air pressure bullets and than has a cooldown before you can use it again.
A stagger sniper would also bee nice.
Shotguns: "Sniping" (Crusader), stagger (disciple, GPS), heavy hitter (Claymore, Piranha, Graal), low weight - moderate damage (eviscerator, Wraith), ****load (scimitar, Katana)
IMO the best weapons in the game in total. I can't really say that we need anything on that class.We have a one hit wonder (claymore) rapid fire (GPS, Piranha, Graal), usuable "caster" shotties, shield destroyers (GPS), everything destroyer (claymore Piranha)...I guess it's safe to say that you have a weapon for every occasion.
A full-auto shotgun could implement a new element but can't say that we truly need it.
Assault Rifles: Heavy hitter (Saber-99, Cerberus Harrier), low weight - moderate damage (Mattock, Phaeston, Vindicator), high fire rate (Revenant, Typhoon) , explosives (striker, Falcon) , low weight - no damage (GPR, M-8)
I think it's safe to say that the AR tier may have the most weak weapons but IMO it also has the most variations of weapons.
Still I strongl believe that we certainly need at least one more autofire weapon that lies somewhere between the Harrier and Revenant. Not as strong as the Harrier, not as weak as the Revenant and also with a clip and fire rate somewhere between those 2 weapons.
Despite of this a low damage auto or burst fire stagger+shield destroyer weapon (something asari manufactured) would also be a very nice add for all the caster classes.
I won't cover the SMGs since I don't really use them and it'd be sort of useless.
so here we go. Nothing special just something I wanted to get off my chest.
A weapon analysis or...what do we have and what might we still need?
