I'm decided on a new character playthrough of the game. I've come to a wall so to speak. I know there are plenty of resources telling me what are good spells what are bad. Yet i've not seen anything in regards to roleplaying so to speak.
I was entertaining the idea of playing a Sorcerer while roleplaying the character. I was thinking of the staple spells that any mage would have, but I was also thinking some defensive minded spells. Such as Clairavoyance and Wizard Eye?
Would some of the usually not used spells be good to pick or am I setting myself up for failure?

You have an entire group (unless you decide to go solo), so even if your sorcerers spell picks are a little sub-par, you will still be able to finish the game (and indeed it is almost impossible to play 6 characters to their full potential at the same time anyway).
Having said that, this bit intrigues me:
When selecting your spells, just take a moment to ask yourself: What does my character actually believe he needs? Did he lately face any problems that one of the offered spell picks would have solved for him? Or is he the curious sort that would love to try out a particular kind of magic?

How is it roleplaying if you just recycle the spells from somebody else? (You probably meant to use it just for reference, but this is how I read it)I know there are plenty of resources telling me what are good spells what are bad. Yet i've not seen anything in regards to roleplaying so to speak.

You could play a transmute specialist that likes to fight “in character” i.e. troll, jelly & mind flayer for example... inevitability comes the slayer & perhaps ‘Time Stop’ with a view to melee combat. This sort of character would teach you a lot about the games spell system & lots of fun solo but would be hard with a group... note that all spell guides are just someone’s preference anyway.
