Arc pistol = crap? I'm not seeing what's so great about it.

So if I'm reading the Coalesced.bin right...

the Arc Pistol does the same damage as the M3 Predator per shot, can be rapid-semiauto-fired just as fast as the Predator , weighs a crapton, does 2x damage for 3x ammo charging up, and factoring in how long it takes to charge up does far less DPS than just spamming, and starts of at grade 1 with only 3 more shots than a grade 1 Predator?

So what exactly is so special about it?  What warrants it weighing so much?  Or did I misinterpret the coalesced data?  Why is its damage bar so high?  I'm not seeing any justification for that.  Why not just pack a Predator?  It weighs so much less.

I dont like it, always seemed a bit pointless to me. Then again there's quite a few weapons that I only tried once and gave up on

Well it's not crap.. Although you are correct the predator is still extremely effective. I use the classics quite often and the Avenger is getting smoked by most of the new cache of weapons. I wasn't impressed with the Arc pistol and usually use the N7 Eagle right now if I'm taking a pistol. The Eagle reminds me of an automatic Predator but not so much as powerful as an auto Phalanx or Carnifex.

Other than that I use the Talon. I made a topic for this kind of thing. It's about 4-5 pages back and didn't take hold, "Weapon Discussion". Didn't get it either.

Think of the Arc pistol as a general purpose weapon. It has rapid fire like the predator, but with the option of charging for carnifex damage. This means on bosses you don't lose as much to armor, and you can snipe more with it, but in close you can still do rapid fire to clear out the husks and swarmers.

It is a jack of all trades weapon, not a specialist.

The Carnifex can fire more quickly, and the gun weighs more than both combined.

If I wanted something that manages balance between the Predator and the Carnifex, I think I'd rather go for the Phalanx, instead of something that tries to be both and fails at both primarily on account of being a giant brick in the pack.

Without any pistol, my Vanguard has a +144% cooldown boost currently (Scimitar V and Vindicator V loaded, load booster class passive power evo).  With a Predator V, it goes down to +108%, losing 36%.  WIth a Carnifex V, 87%, losing 57%.  The actually effective "jack of all trades" Phalanx V weighs it down to a clean 100%, meaning 44% loss.  The brick Arc Pistol V... weighs it down to just +21%, with a 123% loss.  It weighs more than both the Carnifex and Predator combined, and is only 14% lighter than all three other pistols combined.

Isn't the Arc pistol good against Geth? Or is that a lie?

I'm doubting it, LaZy.

I just took it to the Spectre shooting range and shot up the Shield target. The Arc Pistol V took 8 normal shots (no nonstandard ammo, completely naked of mods) to empty the shield bar. The
Predator? ...Seven.

The full-charge shot from the Arc Pistol does more damage than the Carnifex, though. However, lacking a stopwatch, I can't get anything precise on rates of fire, but just from the feel, I think the Carnifex still has a higher DPS.

If the thing actually was of an appreciable weight, I might have considered it.  As-is... I'll be stickin' with my Phalanx.  Balance between the Carnifex and the Predator, instead of trying and failing to be both.

arc X is my standard go-to on most caster classes. Better damage/cap/RoF than CarniX, accuracy is the same and both are @ 200% cool-down. ArcX DPS = 884.58, CarnX = 575.17, etc.

...but feel free to pack a Predator - you may be a better shot than me.

I mainly bring it just for variety. It gets boring using the Carnifex/Paladin every single time. Then again, most of my Pistol-carrying characters are caster classes anyway, so they rarely need to use their weapon.

This gun has so much potential, looks cool but is actually terrible. It should have been a combination of the reegar and the acolyte. Instead it's weaksauce and annoying- total noob gun.

I don't know what I dislike looking at more, MP Meta topics or Story complaints.

Anyway, its a different weapon. Really, that's it. The Arc Caster was such an effective weapon, and they had to do something with the concept, so they chopped it up for use. Its a novelty just like Grenade Rifles or Harpoon Sniper Rifles/Knife shotguns.

To be honest, none of the weapons are going to come close to the overpowered Hand Cannons, or the lack of balance DLC weapons.
