Assume for a moment that IT isn't true. Why did Casey Hudson want speculation? Is is because he wanted people to discuss something that doesn't exist? That would be horrible and cruel to the fans!
Is it at all plausible that the entire studio was okay with that ending at face value? I find that hard to believe...

Thoughts?

2001:Space Odyssey is popular for having such a bizarre and ambiguous ending, even though the makers weren't exactly aiming for ambiguity to began with.  But they embraced it, because the speculation gave the film an added power, an added quality.

So they could have gone with the speculation to make the game more intersting than it otherwise would be.

What I'd be interested to know is whether they themselves have an intended version of events, or whether the entire construction of the closing scenes is purely intended to invite speculation.  But that's another story.

The monolith is an evolutionary accelerator...

Hey! Don't say that! They had enough decency to make the smacktalk with the guardian as short as possible in the original ending, remember?
It is us the gamers who usked for more catalyst lines among other things we got with the EC.

Actually they first had a very long version (while planning) but decided on the short one.

MB, you never disappoint. Posted Image That was very touching. We're not even here to fight anymore, not really. We're here... for the same reasons we love Mass Effect - The characters.

Why did Chris create an IT poll if they didn't intenede it. Why not kill IT when it was in it's infant form. Why keep saying we will comfirm, no deni IT, if IT was not what they had in mind. No one can deny that, at some point in time, some "IT sequence" was planned to be implemented in the ending sequence(s). Just take this as a good hint that there might still be "remains" of this in the game files.

No one can deny that, at some point, IT could have made a very good ending, if not requiring a "final boss battle" to be designed and added to the actual content. EC was done instead, but still some points were not really "clarified", and the "breath scene" was left in, even if many non-ITers don't relate it to the rest of the "destroy" sequence. Rushed clarification to a rushed ending? I don't believe Bioware did that. Instead, I think they just added enough to get the most satisfied, without taking everything relating to IT out of the picture.

No one can deny that, at some point, there is more "desire" and "need" for a fully fleshed-out ending here, on this thread, than in Bioware's offices right now. So, where would anyone look to get fresh ideas?

If this thread could refrain its enthusiasm to go in all directions as soon as a tiny hint is brought to attention, maybe, just MAYBE, some solid storyline could emerge with no weak spot for easy rebuttal. For that to happen, where is the best place to look : in ethereal "speculation", or in the same "content" everyone can see and investigate?

Maybe IT can fill a few "holes" of the endings, but it can't achieve this without proper opponents. :P

That’s all they ever do, is just stand there and talk. That’s what they were doing last week, that’s what they were doing when you asked me five minutes ago. So, five minutes from now, when you ask me, “What are they doing?” my answer's gonna be, “They’re still just talking, and they're still just standing there.” - Chruch Posted Image

Master Blaster: All of us will probably die. But that's not what's important. Let me ask you two a question: You ever wonder why we're here?

ITer #1:
...

ITer #2:
...

ITer #1:
Um, it does seem to be one of life's great mysteries.

Master Blaster:
No, I mean you! What are you doing here? You always act like you wanna quit, but hell, you could've left whenever you wanted. No one would have stopped ya. So why are you here? And you, [ITer #2].

ITer #2:
Me?

Master Blaster:
You say you wanna be in charge. They would have given you your own squad a dozen times over. You know it, and I know it. But you're still, here. And you [ITer #3]. As much as I hate to admit it, you're actually good at being a soldier.

ITer #3:
I am?

Master Blaster:
I know you like to make your rude comments, pretend like it all doesn't matter. But an entire alien race chose you to be their hero! So why are you here? And [ITer #4]... Uuhhh, it's good to see you.

ITer #4:
Thanks. I'm really enjoying the speech so far.

Master Blaster:
Maybe you're all here because this is the only place you fit in. Maybe you're here because you don't have anywhere else to go. Maybe you're all here, because deep down, you want to be here. The reason doesn't matter. What matters is that you're here! For all we know, [ITer #5] and [ITer #6] are dead. That means we're the only ones who know what's happened; the only ones who can prevent them from covering it up. So the way I figure it, these Literalist guys, wanna use us, take us away from our families, and send us all over the dag gum galaxy just to test if their trolls are ready for the big fight? Well, I guess I'm interested in showing 'em, exactly what a big fight is all about. Time to clean the slate. So I'm not ordering you to go. I ain't even askin'. You do, what you gotta do [ITer #1].

ITer #1:
Hhh, I'll go get my car keys.

Master Blaster:
Ah, alright then. Let's move.

Well, they didn't give you all a lot of meat... Maybe they expected something to come out of the discussions, but maybe also this "something" is not "it" yet. From the opposition seen on many threads, do you really believe the "all a dream" version of IT could be appealing to Bioware in any way, or at least to the point of getting comments from them  that are more than "not denying it"?

Hmm interesting... more reasons to believe Ilos/Vigil was a ruse:
When talking with Shiala:
Shep: Do you know what the conduit is, or where it is?
Shiala: No, I'm sorry. All I know is that Saren believes the conduit was the key to the Prothean extinction.

Fishing for attention here :D
What if the Conduit isn't the relay but something Saren took with him from Ilos?

The Conduit was nearly the key to our extinction as well...
You can bypass the Citadel's defenses and pour a whole army right into the Citadel, not far from the Citadel tower...

You're practically guaranteed to sieze the Citadel tower long enough to activate the relay to dark space...
It was a solid plan that honestly should have worked...

I've never been a fan of the "Shepard is indoctrinating people" theory. It sounds too much like the thread on here that says that all human beings are really controlled. It's a terrible read. There's just too large a gap between being persuaded to make a decision through logic and faith and being forced to make a decision by someone else.

Though the relay was of Prophean design, at least that is what Vigil tells you, it never really made much sense for the Reapers to leave the other small one sitting there. Also when it was the key over the Propheans, why does Vigil tell you the Reapers never found them. In any case, it doesn't add up.

No seriously, no idea, it's just that it doesn't fit with anything we hear from Vigil.
