So, to reiterate....If Shepard is the playable character in me4 then there's still more to his story, therefore his story can't be over. If the playable character cant fail in some vital conflict, then that's idiotic and boring. If he can fail then that has a huge impact on his story.

Shepard can fail to be charismatic enough to stop the war between the Geth and Quarians. Shepard can fail to stop Samara committing suicide. That doesn't mean it's part of Shepard's story, that makes him a crappy catalyst.

It all comes down to a great depate over what sound does a falling tree make, if there is no one to hear it fall. )))) 

The ME universe is made and created in such a way, that it canno exist unless there is Shepard to witness it. )) It is as simple as that. And that is why shepard will be main character in ME4 and It is true.

1 specific story, in this case Shepard's personal crisis, will be over. Now we can have another story about Shepard!

which brings us full circle to me3 not being the end of commander shepards story. it's the end of one chapter in it

my post that started this was that IT being true+no IT dlc+me3 is the end of Shepards story cant all be true, especislly if Shepard is the playsble character in me4

Right. End of story arc:

Genophage Cure = Wrex/Mordin

Geth/Quarian Peace = Legion/Tali

Cronos = Cerberus

Future final confrontation with TIM = TIM

AY monastery - Accepting daughter = Samara

Rachni planet - Becoming a leader = Grunt

Becoming the ulitmate catalyst = Shepard

Defeating the Reapers = Galactic unity

It's everyone's story while also not being any one person's story.

How exactly did we defeat the Reapers again?

And Shepard is the one indispensable factor in all of those. And if Shepard's story arc is become the ultimate catalyst, what's his story arc in ME4?

They said ME3 is the end of Shepard's story, not that he won't be in ME4.

This is a great post. The story arc for the genophage is complete, the story arc for the geth and quarians are complete, the story arc for squad mates are complete. Shepards story arc is complete after he beats indoctrination. That just leaves one unresolved aspect of the story arc unresolved... Defeating the reapers.

It will be something like this  - you buy and install the ME4 game - run it - it preposes to import a ME3 save file - you do that - and the game starts and you're playing as Shepard.

Defeating the Reapers isn't Shepard's story, he's simply involved in it.
