How I imagine MP games will be when Harbinger shows up:

Harbingers back?! He's appearing in MP?! *Gets on knees and looks up: Hallelujah!

Watch the trailer! He's as arrogant as ever. How people can think that the Catalyst is trustworthy in any way, is beyond me now.

I don't know, if you listen to Harbinger in the new trailer it's just more evidence that the reapers are misunderstood and have our best interest at heart.

Also is anyone else hearing a buzzing noise?

I think the reason people are so "blind" is there is no definitive evidence to prove this. Imagine if we had a trial to convict Harbinger as the Catalyst. Would you really have the evidence to get people to find him guilty? I mean it's good speculation but let's refrain from talking about it like absolute fact.

I've never needed definitive proof in other stories for things right in front of my face.

I guess it is my writer's mind, but this is kind of how specuation even works, in fiction.

It's like the Joker's Sister story. Even if we listen to the whole thing, I guess unless Joker himself confirms what exactly happened, in detail, there will be people that say "Nah, its just speculation. It might be Joker's sister, but we don't know."
masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Jeff_%22Joker%22_Moreau

(I believe this story was deliberate in style, by the way. Many of ME3's mini-stories are.)

It's called inference. Harbinger has 'inferred' pretty much the whole plot with ME3-Shepard since ME2-Horizon, but that still isn't enough for many people yet. I understand that, but it does make me /facepalm at this point.

And sadly, those are the people that run the wiki. Even the possiblity of it being Joker's sister can't be mentioned! Posted Image

The wikia mods are morons. One of the devs even confirmed it's Joker's sister, saying they were wondering how long it would take players to figure it out.

Yep, I'm 100% behind the Harby = Intelligence and Other Reapers = Indoctrinated theories.

To defeat the Reapers, we just need to break them off from their semi-hive mind.

That's why TIM (forget about the dream version) is...kinda right. Kinda.

We defeat their indoctrination, and the Reapers become just tools. It may be up to the player, later on in DLC, to agree with his methods or not, but first TIM has to fully reveal his plan.

And since Shepard himself might be the real Catalyst (look at the scenes with TIM and listen to his wording and approach toward Shepard), TIM is (kinda) understandable in his refusal to involve Shepard in his plan yet.

But then again, we can still just destroy the Reapers. It's the safest bet and isn't so morally messed up. Both Paragons and Renegades did everything in order to either destroy the Reapers, or 'drive them into dark space', but I can still imagine a twist with TIM, that his plan IS legit, even if very questionable.

(and I think it involves Shepard being part of the next evolution of organics. I personally think that TIM has a bit of a Reaper's mind in him, but he's not indoctrinated by the Reapers themselves. The 'Catalyst'/Harbinger is just drawing on Shepard's memories of TIM til that point.)

But this isn't anything like that. The kid could be Illusive Man for all you know. The fact that Harbinger is absent for so much of the game hurts your case also. I mean outside game evidence we could say that it only makes sense that Harbinger's role is subtle. But inside the game it would help more if there was definitive evidence that Harbinger was trying to indoctrinate you. Though, for some people I don't think that would be enough either because he says in Arrival your mind will be mine and people ignore that. Regardless though, there is not enough evidence to to 'confirm' that Harbinger is the the kid.

I know that IT-theorists are very selective about arguments, but tell me - why Catalyst has another voice, not Harbinger's? I mean that "SO BE IT!" in Refuse Ending. It's definetely not Harbinger's voice. I can recognise Keith Szarabajka even after reaper's voice filter.

I know. That's why I called it inference.

And I'm usually right in my inference detection, not to gloat. ;) (I'm the guy to spoil the entire movie plot before half an hour has passed in it, even in the more 'intellectual' films.)

Yes, it could be TIM for all we *know*, but the tone of the game, from the larger plot view, to the smaller lines by characters, seems to scream "Harbinger is gonna getcha!"

Dream. Really.

Why? It's actually a blessing that Shepard even got that leak from him. It's a Reaper voice, more akin to the Reaper on Rannoch, but the 'Catalyst's' story he gives you is far more aligned to the Intelligence's story, than any 'stock' Reaper.

And I say the Intelligence is what becomes Harbinger. Remember that Harbinger is even written to mask itself as other beings, even if only for gameplay purposes. My example is the Collector General in ME2: Arrival. Before Suicide Mission, it is (whether its a mental projection or a real one) shown as the Collector General, but after the Suicide Mission, it is shown as Harbinger.

Well, Harbinger hijacking the Catalyst was an idea that I had a while back, so I suppose it could fit with something. Although I'd find it rather disappointing that the potential of alternative solutions was thrown away in favor of just blowing everything the hell up.

I think that the theory that Harbinger has all the other Reapers could have a twist. If Harbinger successfully indoctrinates like, I dunno-Shepard, he could create certain Reapers that have more free will, while others are practically his puppets

Sorry!

But don't bash literalists as a whole :). I get the interpretation and can understand why others don't see it as what is happening in Mass Effect.

It's just very frustrating by this point, because it seems so evident now, and I'm sure my frustration will mount after Omega DLC or at least the one after it (Dec-Jan?).

I agree on this this, idd love to see TIM´s plans amount to something more than just indoctrinated servant to the Reapers.

Even if they twisted his mind beyond what he originally wanted he might have set in motion events which could still help us and I would love to see something like it show up. Show us that even if Cerberus went too far all those sacrifices were not completely in vain.

I'd like to see something like that too. And since believing you can control the Reapers is being tricked by them, as opposed to actually believing in their cause (a la Saren), I think TIM should be able to do something useful to stop the Reapers, while sacrificing himself. He needs to die, but I think he should get a little redemption first.

That's also pretty much how I feel about post-end Shep in regards to each choice Posted Image

The voice change indeed reveals him as Reaper (despite him pratcially saying it to your face earlier) which by any kind of logic means he is not to be trusted, Harbinger or not.

We havent been told about Indoctrination or been fed information about how the Reapers deceive leaders to enter their superstructure and be Indoctrinated for nothing.

When you look for alternative solutions with the Reapers, you have to remember they had many millenia in order to plug those holes, yet dangle the possibility of them in front of both organics' and synthetics' (remember the Geth worship) faces.

Is Synthesis possible? YES, but give it time. Space Magic would tear the galaxy up, in 'reality'. AI and tech-relations need much more time than the 'Crucible' allows, to create a fair and just galaxy. We'll get there, just as it took time to realize EDI as a sentient and emotional being.
"I am alive"? No, you were already alive before Synthesis, and you knew it.

Is Control possible? YES, but holyyyyyyyycrapppppp you have to be careful about it. The way the 'Catalyst' presents it, it seems so simple, but it isn't. No single mind, imo, could ever overtake the Reaper overmind, ever. Attempts at Control in Mass Effect have been 95-99% failures, and 1-4% successes.

In either case, trusting the 'controller of the Reapers' to present the choice to you is a false choice in itself. Shepard is now going to listen intently to the Reaper Child? In the form of a child he saw die? Somehow the thing knew to take that form. I wonder how...

Preceisely. Until the Citadel scene, I still had the impression that there was far more to TIM's plan than whatever happened in the ending.

And is he insane? Yes, I actually still think he is. Controlling the Reapers is an insane choice imo. But one that I think can still be valid to the story. I think there's much more to humanity and their potential onto the galaxy, than the story has revealed so far, but I guess we may have to wait for DLC or more to illustrate what I mean.

Just... don't kill yourself then upload your AI to a Reaper body. Come now.

Well.... I don't think they're exactly 'indoctrinated' like organics are. Nor are they an actual hive-mind.

More that their code immediately puts them into 'Reaper Mode', leaving Harbinger in charge no matter what, and instills the belief that the cycle can never be broken. They are automatons, even if very very clever and powerful ones.

Harbinger is the one with the full-on arrogance and, eventually (hello DLC and more) hubris. Just like the Leviathans had.
