Important troll poll!
Okay, I see it is working. I will have to think about a way to determine the top ten then.

Just to be clear, I'm fine with a Cliff Notes, and Restrider is doing fine with that. I think you guys misunderstood me. What I meant to say was Kelly's version is a really bad way to analyze and review the theory when he/she chose all of the weak arguments of IT and she she was dumbing it down to the point where it looked like a joke. I'm behind your list, Restrider, although I'm finding it hard to find things to add.

+1

That F-bomb in the title and bad grammar already put me off after paragraph one. I'm perhaps too much of a snob to take anything (of term-paper length or longer) someone didn't take the time to spell + grammar check, seriously. How damn difficult is it to just press F7 in Word?

Perhaps rather make it an "IT Highlights" list than trying to come up with some concrete number. Adding more links in the actual list will also be even more awesome than it already is. And ask Byne to move it to the OP once it is in a stable state.

oh god, I can't stand these synthedroids. Reading their BS logic (not the op, just HYR 2.0 and such) just makes my head hurt.

There's even a Control Freak in there who argues for control using head canon. I just can't deal with this massive stupidity. Did we even play the same games? Urrrrrrrrrrgh! :pinched:

It already is IT Highlights regardless of the poll. Though even the lurkers and everyone in this thread has the ability to contribute to the list by sharing thoughts, additional perspective and links, only a few do, because they cannot invest hours of their time assemble posts like those of Arian for example. Gathering this list of IT Highlights and letting everyone show their opinion on the different points via a simple vote in a poll is much easier. I would really like to see, how the IT consensus regarding these points is.
Of course this list is nothing that cannot be changed anymore. And this is not going to be some kind of "The Ten Commandments Of IT". But I really want to see the outcome of the polls =].

The only ending I like (if it has to be literal) is Control with Renegade femShep. Boy, that creeps me out :D. It is like turning to the darkest side of the dark side of the force.

No kidding.

The funniest thing is the synthesis thread being called "a different kind of ascension".

Harbinger in the MP trailer:  "THEY WILL SUCCUMB AND ASCEND. OR THEY WILL BE ANNIHILATED."

A different kind? You sure? :o

Cracks me up.

People are so blind. And they say WE are in denial!

The preliminary work has been done. I know that the list I have compiled is not complete and that there may be things still to add. I am sure that future DLCs such as the Omega DLC will provide more clues. I will address this in future addenda, if necessary.
Yet, I have come to the conclusion that the list has already enough information that an election can be started. To the best of my knowledge this kind of survey has not been done in the IT community yet and will show which concepts are considered to be the most important to the Indoctrination Theory.
The first poll will try to identify the most important concept and thus finding a number one. The polls will be active for about 24 hours. After that, the concept with the majority of the votes is going to be announced as the number one and will be removed in subsequent polls that will determine the number two, number three, etc.
Everyone interested may vote. Trolls may grab their computer/laptop/tablet/smartphone and ensure a dangerous destruction of said device.

First poll.       (Start: 05.10.12 ~17:00 GMT; End: 07.10.12 ~17:00 GMT)

Tenth poll.     (Start: 23.10.12 ~17:00 GMT; End: 25.10.12 ~17:00 GMT)
Since I don't want to update the list in various posts, I cut the list out of this post and only left the link.

First poll. (Start: 05.10.12 ~17:00 GMT; End: 06.10.12 ~17:00 GMT)
Result: TBA

List of in-game reasons:

 1) The Breath Scene :
   - London rubble
   - Mako in the background
   - Citadel explosion

 2) The Kid :
   - teleportation in Vancouver
   - opens a door that is marked as locked
   - survives blast
   - not seen by anyone else
   - warning symbols

 3) The Dreams :
   - dream sequences and post-beam sequence share the same game mechanics
   - reality-nonreality transition after beam shot (post-beam, dreams, Geth Consensus)
   - oily shadows and whispering
   - nightmares are mentioned in the Arrival by subjects being indoctrinated
   - Chambers and Asari having PTSD as comparison between PTSD & Shepard's dreams

 4) The Citadel :
   - resembling events of the past
   - Coats dead on the Citadel

 5) Anderson & TIM :
   - how did Anderson follow Shepard?
   - how can Anderson reach the control first?
   - why did no one else follow Anderson?
   - from where did TIM shows up?
   - Anderson addressing Shepard ("They are controlling you!")
   - TIM dominating Shepard and through TIM, the Reapers
   - Anderson's wound (link 1 and 2)
   - Reaper horn played in the background (at 1/2 speed)

 6) Leviathan :
   - Harbinger/the Reapers prefected enthrallment to indoctrination
   - enthrallment uses memories of its victim
   - similarities between Leviathan end and decision chamber

 7) The Choices :
   - Shepard on his knees happened only during/after some mind control
   - the Guardian is aligned to the Reapers
   - Control and Synthesis being supported by indoctrinated characters
   - a swap in the colours (TIM = ParagonAnderson = Renegade)
   - huskification during Control/Synthesis vs. Shepard gaining strength while shooting the tubes
   - Guardian losing it when you refuse ("SO BE IT!")
   - decision chamber looks like a dialogue wheel, when using flycam
   - decision chamber resembling beam
   - ambiguous end dialogue (Control/Synthesis)

 8) The Beam Run :
   - Harbinger pin-pointing everyone and everything but Shepard
   - Harbinger not destroying the Normandy
   - Shepard surviving the blast that one-shots Makos and Gunships
   - Harbinger leaving

 9) The Guardian :
   - has the same shape as the kid (extraction of Shepard's memories)
   - speaks with femshep's and broshep's voice

10) Indoctrination in general :
   - the concept of indoctrination is a crucial part throughout the trilogy and nothing new to the player (codex entry)
   - Rana Thanoptis is an example of how subtle and slow indoctrination can be
   - Shepard was knocked out for two days by a Reaper artifact that indoctrinated an entire facility
   - the staff in the facility of the Arrival DLC mentioned nightmares in a datapad, also note this
   - the logs on the derelict Reaper illustrate the reactions of victims of indoctrination
   - Paul Grayson's indoctrination further illustrates the process of indoctrination of a victim's mind

I would add in #10 so there is no confusion that Shepard is in the process ( a slow process creates a better thrall) of indoctrination and not actually indoctrinated unless Shepard makes the choices that allign with Reaper goals.

@Restrider:

Minor spelling: Harbinger/the Reapers prefected = perfected

Also, in EC, the soldier is winning in destroy and losing / dying in control/synthesis.
Also in EC, the sound that plays when Shep zaps onto the Citadel is the same sound that plays when waking up from Leviathan enthrallment. Could signal transition between realities.

I also think Harbinger continuously telling Shepard throughout ME2 that he will submit to the Reapers is an indication of his motivations, and seems relevant story-wise. Not sure how to word this, but I'm sure there's some good Harby quotes.

There are lots of quotes. One that I find particularly interesting, because we don't see what happened to Harbinger after the final choice is when he says "I always survive" in mass effect 2.

I am going to vote for Indoc in General because I believe that kind of encompasses all the points, like we wouldn't have an Indoctrination Theory without the backbone of the lore specific Indoctrination, codex, individual reports, in-game stuff...

Ok so Choose Wisely Episode 2 is up, and it I guess was postponed in order to put a few shots of the Collector MP DLC trailer in at the end.

It's very good overall.

I think the big idea is that this is ALL a massive investigation by the Reapers, and Shepard is the very center of it, even... just maybe... since ME1 or even before it. (However, it is after ME1 that he is so very individually focused on by the Reapers/Harbinger)

And this investigation/plan doesn't just include Shepard, but Vega, Liara, EDI, everyone.

And like I said before, Shepard is the *sign* of the next evolution of organic life. His implants just make it even stranger. He IS compelling others to follow him, through the peaceful Paragon or the Reaper-trending Renegade, but it isn't through enthrallment, or mind spores, or telepathy (in most cases), or indoctrination... he INSPIRES them.

Call it Inspiration. It's a power, yes, and not just lower-case 'inspiration', but he IS special and DOES have a power.

It's all one big mind battle, and the Milky Way Galaxy is one big petri dish. Just now, people are starting to put the pieces together. The first big secret is that 'the Prothians are actually just one of the Reaper cycles' (ME1), but the real secret is yet to be fully revealed.

But I'm sure it'll be something that compels characters/this cycle to expand beyond their micromanaged galaxy, and into the greater universe.

EDIT: Oh, and the musical ending to the video (with Leviathan clips, Liara's voice) is very well done. It sends the clear idea that Bioware has been working on this story for quite some time, even if it wasn't exactly hashed out in ME1, and likely wasn't elaborated even by the developers until ME3. It was still there, and their focus now is to sell DLC to provide the puzzle pieces.

Exactly what I've just posted in the comments.  The Indoctrination codex entry and the in-game examples of indoctrination we see are the cornerstone of the Indoctrination Theory;  everything we speculate upon about IT needs to be traced back to what we know for a fact about Indoctrination and how the Reapers use it by using clear in-game examples.

Really good work Restrider!

Yep. This simple fact should turn 100% of people away from Control.

But people still like it anyway.
